Really, Erik, this subject is relevent AND interesting. Are people just suppose to IGNORE all the things that are happening with this show?
The obnoxious spending?
The near year "postponement" AFTER a good number of tix were sold?
The rumor of another postponement?
MAJOR actor injuries?
The spectacle that has become pre-show buzz?
Are some people extreme? Sure, but at least they are talking about something REAL and not just the stagedoor.
The probelems have been very simple, not the major headaches the drama queens are making it sound like.
It announced and then had some bad producing errors which meant the full budget was not raised so it did what any show would do and postpone until that problem could be sorted out. Sadly because it had to halt procedings it lost some actors.
Now its had some injuries because of the wire work, this is a huge show with many tech problems.
Sure, but at least they are talking about something REAL and not just the stagedoor
Do you think Patrick Page will sign at the stage door?
It's pretty obvious to me that this show will start on Sunday 11/14 now. With the state inspectors not yet passing muster on this (not even being able to see all the aerial tricks) and the fact that the entire show has not even been staged in rehearsal (this, frankly shocked me)--- there's just no way.
I have tickets for this on 1/9/11, sitting around the sixth row, almost dead center. I was looking forward to the spectacle of people flying all around me. But I think even that date is in jeopardy. We'll see.
Well I guess I'll be getting my 11/20 ticket refunded??

I'm one of the rare ones who pretty much hated "The Lion King," so I'm not a fan of Taymor's indulgences and excesses. The fact that the show hasn't been run through from start to finish 10 days before previews were to start bothers me a lot more than the other drama.

Well, you can still go - I just don't know what you'll be able to see
^ That I agree with. I get that previews are to work out kinks in the show, but that is beyond ridiculous. These actors better be getting paid well or it wouldn't surprise me if some started walking again.
Wait- so with the delay December tickets are still good, right? The show will still be in previews though. I had tix for the 29th.... They still good?
The only thing you can do at this point is wait and find out. They have to say something soon, since the first preview is or was 10 days away.

If they aren't permanently disabled yet.
Somebody is going to write the most amazing tell-all when all this is over.

They can call it Not Since Spiderman, and continue where the Carrie book left off. But, it sounds like this might end up being at least 3/4 of the book.
Troubling that even KNOWING ther were being inspected, they weren't prepared to show them ALL the stunts? That sound a little fishy right there.

Fire the damn "inspectors" and get a court order and shut down this horrific show.
I read a theatregoer blithely saying you never know what could happen with this show. People went to the ancient Roman collosseum to see gladiators kill each other and to see Christians murdered, too. Creating a lurid "spectacle" at the cost of human beings
I have stopped more than one Manhattan street fight from happening by screaming at men and telling them to get back in their cars and to behave while a slew of silent, drooling onlookers just gathered hoping to see a fight take place until their own idiocy was challenged as well. What is wrong with people that they hope to see another person get injured?
I will not go to see this damn show.
I think you stand outside the theater and scream at patrons and tell them to get back in their cars and not to see the show while a slew of silent, drooling onlookers gather to see a fight take place.

Great idea.
A show worthy of picketing.

Please do! And please post pictures!
You should wear a Batman suit while doing so. Or Nick Fury. He seems like he'd be against the blatant exploitation of superheroes through musical theatre. He prefers to do the exploiting himself.

I think there is a near-nekkid cowboy in Times Square who would be perfect for the picketing job.
A can of Raid in each holster.
I'd rather the attention go back to nothing but six-packs of abs than actors get injured or killed on the job.

Are you advertising for replacement actors for Spiderman?
