Intermission OR not!

I hate intermissions beyond anything - I always sit in my seat and try not to talk about the halfshow I just witnessed since I don't want to judge before it's over. But I'd still prefer shows to have an intermission than not if one seems necessary. If only because I love Act 1 finales.

Im not saying shows shouldnt have intermissions. I fully understand the need for intermissions and ive sat thru so many shows of 3h.30m or 4hr running times and boy am i thankful. Guys just give your opinions but dont knock me down for mine. I agree it depends on the show itself.

Dude, I wasn't even replying to you there, I was replying to a point made by Prisoner 24601! Perhaps it's moments like these that I occasionally feel the need to get you to relax, because unless I miss my guess, *you* just jumped all over *me* for no reason. Yeesh!

I like intermissions, especially when a show is over 2 hours. To be honest, it gives me a chance to take in what I have just seen and regroup myself for the seccond act. This is perticurly true during emotionally taxing shows, such as Les Mis, LoveMusik and Company.

Intermission and the act one finale is all part of the ambiance of musical theatre. I wouldn't have it any other way. I actually don't like it when shows don't have an intermission even if they're under two hours.

"Shakespeare didnt write all those amazing plays with ice cream sales in mind."

Only because there wasn't ice cream in England until 1660 or so. He did write with nut sales in mind, and a shakespeare play would have three or four short intermissions whenever the actors felt they could put one.

Surprisingly, nobody has mentioned yet that the ACTORS need an break in a long show - aka intermission. It's fifteen minutes to sit down, towel off, get changed for the next act, have some water, etc.

i like intermissions- its a time to talk to your companion(s) at the theatre about the show so far, and also a time to get maybe a program and Junior Mints :)

so intermissions are good for longer shows.

Im not saying shows shouldnt have intervals.

What's the difference between an intermission and an interval?

Nothing, America uses Intermission and the UK uses Interval. Intermission is used some times tho.

Original post: "Personaly i think shows should not have an intermission."

Then on page 2: "Im not saying shows shouldnt have intervals. I fully understand the need for intervals and ive sat thru so many shows of 3h.30m or 4hr running times and boy am i thankful."

So...it's ok if it's called an interval but not if it's called an intermission? I'm confused. You started the thread saying there shouldn't be any, then said you are thankful for them... Am I missing something?

Uh, no. We understand that it means the same thing. We don't understand you saying one thing on page one and another on page two.

We're not being heavy handed. But you say there should be no intermissions but you approve of intervals. You are contraditcing yourself and we're confused.

I think it's you that's confused. You're the one who started this thread saying shows shouldn't have intermissions and then said the opposite on the next page.
