I was disappointed with her tamed vocal performance in the film, but was outraged with her performance at the Oscars. Eponine is supposed to belt the hell out of that score, why would they think not having a character belting makes it more believable?!!

Regarding Samantha Mumba, if it really is a "million dollar movie deal," this isn't a small featured role in Into the Woods.

She's doing the Grace Farrell part in Annie, I'll bet.

She did better on stage than in the movie, but her singing is still merely adequate and her acting is boring

First of all, to everyone who says that streep is not cut out for the role, no. Meryl Streep can play any role and pull it off. If its range you're worried about, theres always transposition.

Also, I personally don't like Johnny Depp, so I'm not too thrilled about him being casted

has anyone mentioned kerry washington for the baker's wife? i was reading a magazine recently where she says that into the woods was the first musical she fell in love with, subtle campaigning maybe?

that casting call looks like it's confirming James Corden as the Baker. Wonder if they are going to cast the Baker's Wife the same way or still try for a big name

Since Streep and Depp are confirmed, maybe they'll put lesser-known but capable actors for the other roles.

but if they're going for james corden as the baker (love it), she might be too conventionally beautiful, unless they find a new spin on the tired beautiful-woman-with-schlubby-guy trope. i'd like to see him matched with someone quirkier, maybe.

Kerry Washington: I come from musical theatre, so it was really fun for me to have the opportunity to that again.

i said quirky, not adorkable! but i meant along the lines of toni collette. though i don't know if i see them together either...
