I was disappointed with her tamed vocal performance in the film, but was outraged with her performance at the Oscars. Eponine is supposed to belt the hell out of that score, why would they think not having a character belting makes it more believable?!!

Regarding Samantha Mumba, if it really is a "million dollar movie deal," this isn't a small featured role in Into the Woods.
She's doing the Grace Farrell part in Annie, I'll bet.

She did better on stage than in the movie, but her singing is still merely adequate and her acting is boring
I'd love to see the Hemsworth brothers as the princes.
Is Christina Hendricks too hot for the Baker's Wife? I think she'd be sensational!

Could these two be playing Rapunzel and her prince?

Love Laura Osnes but hope Matthew Morrison isn't her Prince

I feel like they'd want a bigger name for Cinderella, but I'd be pleased if Laura did get cast, she's precious
Here's to hoping that big hunk of flaming douche cheese that is Matt Morrison isn't in this
First of all, to everyone who says that streep is not cut out for the role, no. Meryl Streep can play any role and pull it off. If its range you're worried about, theres always transposition.
Also, I personally don't like Johnny Depp, so I'm not too thrilled about him being casted

snarkmachine, Laura actually played Rapunzel in the reading of the screenplay.
has anyone mentioned kerry washington for the baker's wife? i was reading a magazine recently where she says that into the woods was the first musical she fell in love with, subtle campaigning maybe?

Straight from Sondheim's mouth: Depp is definitely the Wolf, not a bigger part. He said as much at a lecture last night.
Sweet! I like that casting much better. He'll be great.
My dream movie cast:
Meryl Streep as the Witch
Kate Winslet (or Michelle Williams) as The Baker's Wife
Jim Sturgess as The Baker
Toni Colette as Jack's Mother
Ezra Miller as Jack
Amber Riley as Little Red Riding Hood
Johnny Deep as Wolf
Emma Watson as Cinderella
Aaron Tveit as Cinderella's Prince
Diego Boneta as Rapunzel's Prince
Dakota Fanning (or Evan Rachel Woods) as Rapunzel
Glen Close as Cinderella's Step Mother
Kristen Bell & Anna Paquin as the Stepsisters
Christopher Walken as Narrator/Mysterius Man

that casting call looks like it's confirming James Corden as the Baker. Wonder if they are going to cast the Baker's Wife the same way or still try for a big name

So James Corden is confirmed? Good for him
Are those the only three roles that have been cast? They're casting a wide ass net with that casting call
Cordon, YES! Is it possible that this movie will actually be cast with exceptionally good sense and taste?
So happy for James!
Since Streep and Depp are confirmed, maybe they'll put lesser-known but capable actors for the other roles.
Alison Brie would make a fun Cinderella
I'm playing Jack!!! Yay!!! You should all send your pictures and resumes too.
washington made it sound like she had a background in musicals, but this is all i could find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djo6MOjWuCc
but if they're going for james corden as the baker (love it), she might be too conventionally beautiful, unless they find a new spin on the tired beautiful-woman-with-schlubby-guy trope. i'd like to see him matched with someone quirkier, maybe.
edit: found this interview
Q: You had the chance to perform on stage with your cast mates. What was that experience like?
Kerry Washington: I come from musical theatre, so it was really fun for me to have the opportunity to that again.
so, who knows if anyone's actually considering her, but she certainly seems qualified. she's not an a-lister but she's been having a great year, it's not out of the question.

If they cast Zooey, I'm blaming you
i said quirky, not adorkable! but i meant along the lines of toni collette. though i don't know if i see them together either...
