I hope this source is reliable....
Well, if Friedman is right then there goes the idea that the Baker's Wife would be played by an A-lister. It'd be crazy if Corden and Arianda got the roles over so many celebrities, good for them if this is true.
Why does he say Meryl Streep is a "big rumor" when virtually all other sources say she's confirmed?
Arianda as the Baker's Wife would seal the deal on this for me. If done well, it could net her award nominations.

She got her MFA from NYU, a program who does require its students to be proficient singers.
"Is there any chance that Bernadette could make a cameo? Pherhaps as Jack's or even Cinderella's mom."
Allison Janney is more than likely playing Jack's Mother.
Marshall at least had the smarts to give Chita a cameo. He'd be wise to do the same for Bernadette or Joanna.
If Depp is doing the "smaller" role of the Wolf (and I think he'd be great in it), I would love for Bernadette to play Red Ridding Hood's Granny. She would be a hoot. Or she could play Cinderella's Mother/Ghost in the tree, and at least she would get to sing.

Well my hopes are officially back up for Anna Kendrick as Cinderella. I believe the same source on these threads who said it wasn't her but a big star also said basically all the major roles were played by big stars? Guess we're back to square one of not knowing anything, which means I'm back to futilely hoping for Kendrick.
I stil think Amy Adams would be great as Cinderella if Anna isn't available now.
Although, maybe she's done with those woods ...
I think Adams would have been great years ago but she played this type of role when she did ENCHANTED, which also tries to play with the princess stereotype from old fairy tales. She's made a point to take very different roles from that mold lately, and I'm sure that's why she made a conscious decision to play the Baker's Wife and not Cinderella in the recent NY production (of course, Brantley said Mueller and her should have switched roles in his review, so you definitely have a point, Besty). Also, rumor on the board was Adams found the INTO THE WOODS experience not so pleasant so maybe she doesn't want to be involved in another incarnation of the show, who knows?
Kendrick remains my top choice, with Jennifer Lawrence as my second.

I bet if there's any roadblock for Kendrick it may be that she's done two musicals in a row (Pitch Perfect and The Last Five years), this would make three. The timing's not great.

Plus Pitch Perfect 2. Female Efron. :')

I have to say I heard the exact opposite from someone who worked on the show with her. Amy remains close friends with several of her castmates and had a great time with the show. The critical reaction and everything about the on-again-off-again transfer was a headache, to be sure, but the actual experience of the show I have heard was positive for her. FWIW, I adored her as the Baker's Wife, and would love to see her reprise the role on film.

I love the idea of Jennifer Lawrence. I'm sure this has been asked, but has she demonstrated any singing ability anywhere?

I mean, that sounds promising, but you can't fake your way through Cinderella...I wonder if she could sustain some of the higher notes Cinderella sings in the Prologue and in On the Steps of the Palace. I'd love it if she could, she'd be a lovely choice acting-wise.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LFHMFWc5Qw jennifer lawrence was dubbed on this song, there's no way she'd be able to sing cinderella. i agree that she's the right type for the role and would probably nail it acting-wise, but i wish her name would stop coming up in these discussions because she doesn't have the vocal ability at all.

Plus there is no way she has time for this. She's booked solid for the next couple of years.

Except for the three other movies she made in between them.
Jennifer Lawrence is more of a Baker's Wife (although too young) than she is a Cinderella. I don't see her in that part.

Wait did anybody ever think about Morgan Freeman or Samuel L. Jackson as The Narrator or Mysterious Man?
