I have a pen video camera if anyone would like to borrow it for tonight to surveil the performance. Holds 20 gigs of HD video and looks like a pen.
PM me, serious only.

Posted: 6/18/12 at 6:07pmIf the Public were smart (and I did say "if"), they would film it and sell the dvd as a fund raiser. That would be far more democratic than $1500 (or the limited number of $500 performance only tickets).

Geesh stop the whinning, someone has to pay for it!
I'm sorry but the Public theatre gives out free freaking tickets all summer long. It has to get money from somewhere. So the F what if it has a reading to raise money? Get the F over it! Corine!

Posted: 6/18/12 at 7:40pmI am perfectly calm about this. I merely suggest that the Public find a way to fund raise from those of us who do not have $1500, since there are so many more of us out here. Yes, someone does have to pay for it, but I would prefer that a theater that calls itself "Public" be supported by lots of small donations in addition to the enormous sums being donated by corporations and the wealthy. It may sound like whining to you, but to me it sounds like basic economics.

Wonkit, how many events does the Public have like this over the course of the year? How many Free performances does it provide? Yes, it does have major corporstions funding it howeverfree theatre in the park is still an expensive venture. How long and how much would a fund drive cost directed to those who do not have $1,500 to spend on a ticket? Figure in mailing publications, postage etc. Let us talk economics indeed!
If public donations were enough, they wouldn't need these types of events. I will venture to query the OP how much he has donated to the Public theatre this year? Or you for that matter?

Posted: 6/18/12 at 10:37pmI did not suggest that it had to be exclusively small donations. And how much have you donated?

Posted: 6/19/12 at 12:41amMe? I'm not the one complaining of a high ticket price fund raising event for the PUBLIC Theatre and not being offered a freebe.
#22Is Anyone Going To See The Public Theatre's Not So Public Performance of ROMEO & JULIET Tonight?
Posted: 6/19/12 at 12:44amWell, it was great. Was it to the caliber of a full-blown production? No. But I don't think anyone there tonight or otherwise expected it to be. It was a chance to see some of the most amazing stage actors alive today live on stage doing what they love best and that's what was delivered.
