I read All That Chat because sometimes it's a bit informative, and sometimes the posters have some interesting things to contribute. Note the word sometimes. I don't post. I joined for a little while, but found BWW a much more pleasant environment to discuss the theater.
I find the whole thing too controlling, far too fussy and old, and yes, very difficult to navigate through. Time to change the layout, Ann. In defense of some ATC posters, at least a bunch of them like Sondheim, therefore they're not ALL as bad as After Eight.
Now I remember. It got to the point where ANN was bitchy to me and that's when I told her to delete my account.

Both boards are useful (depending on what your purpose is). Broadway World seems to attract a younger group - probably because of the more leniant moderation, but both seem to serve a pupose in their own way.
I've been a member of ATC forever now, and if you've followed the board for any length of time - you come to realize the posting "parameters". Straight up theater discussions in a mature fashion are not going to get you banned. A lot of industry people, media outlets, etc... read the board, so I've always understood why it was more heavily moderated. Cuts down on the immature postings, but the elitist attitude of a lot of posters there (well, and here!) is a topic for a whole other discussion
As far as the ATC layout, if you choose the "flat board" option at the top, it's not much different than the Broadway World layout. Threads are bundled. The regular view can drive me crazy though.
However, I'll take ATC's dinosaur-age format all day to the format here that allows page-long ridiculous signatures that take up so much room in threads.
I haven't seen overly long signatures on here in a long time.

True, it's gotten a little better.
***Edited to say I just came across this one (wasn't even looking for an example actually). Now is this necessary to read everytime someone posts? This is what I was talking about above:

I've been banned from ATC even though I have never posted there!
I was merrily posting here and there for a few months on ATC, when I off-handedly mentioned a "bootleg" (I think I mentioned something about a Gypsy video), and next thing I knew, I was off.
There are some informed people on there, but they run it like a Cheerleader clique over there. They'll tolerate you for a little bit, but as soon as you cross anything in their "charter club rulebook", they'll cut you!
The BWW boards, no matter how juvenile and bitchy it can be, is a lot more fun than the other board.
Yes, I think I was booted for mentioning the name "Miles Kreuger." I guess Ann isn't interested in seeing home movie footage from the original FINNIAN'S RAINBOW (among others).

There's only one After Eight.

"Can not let anything GO (someting even I can be guilty of at times, but it's one of the many thing about myself that I'm constantly working on)"
I'd say you've got a long road to hoe.
After Eight---I'll be one of those "correcting posters" now (violation #105B-C7) and tell you that you don't hoe a road.
It's a farm term, to do with crops.
You hoe a row ... of corn, beans, carrots, etc.
... as in a "tough row to hoe," "hard row to hoe," or "long row to hoe."
Bestie is a hoe master!
LOL
Oh, I know my hoes, artscallion, believe me.
Steering back on topic, I've visited the ATC board probably three times total. Their format sucks so bad. It's one step away from ASCII DOS text.

I can never decide if I should be flattered or creeped out that After Eight will always take the time to quote me and make some weird comment in response.

" Know-it-all sour pusses ready to jump down your throat. "
What is it that's bugging you, really?
Resentful that others may possess knowledge that you lack? Jealous of those who saw shows you didn't?
How petty. How dispiriting.
Try to quash such sentiments. They're not becoming.
Posters who are extremely unhappy in life and vent their issues here instead of springing for a shrink.
LOL
Oh, the list ...
LEAVE AFTER EIGHT ALONE!!!!!!!
Exactly.
The bullies are the worst. Especially the older bullies who denounce bullying and act like it's a fad or a joke or a lie or a "myth" ...
Those are the worst offenders of all. The truly stupid ones.

Imagine if After Eight was a real person and not a character created for the board!
I don't want to imagine anything as sad as that.
I gave up
And I always thought After Eight was one of those refreshing chocolate mint squares in the noisy wrappers.
I still don't get how they approve people... based on your name, email, and potential username? There's no application.
