I went onto Ticketmaster.com to try and buy tickets for July, but they are only selling them till June... is the show scheduled to close or something?

probably not. Most shows that don't have a huge advance only sell tickets 3 to 4 months in advance of the current date.
I would say the producers will hold out until the movie comes out to try and boost ticket sales

I dont think its closing. I was at Mary Poppins a few weeks ago, and they were only selling until July 1 too, and I doubt Disney will close that anytime soon. Hairspray is still doing very well. The Producers has gone along time with lower grosses than Hairspray has. I would guess Hairspray will go at least another year.

Tickets go on sale in blocks. The ticket blocks for the summer didn't go on sale yet.
Exactly. Tickets go on sale in months blocks for ALL shows. WICKED isn't closing anytime soon, but tickets for this Christmas (2007) aren't available yet.
thanks guys! i had just noticed that alot of the other shows, like Poppins and Jersey, etc WERE selling tickets for July... so i was just curious if maybe Hairspray was near its end.
Anyhow... i noticed it was selling at TKTS, has anyone bought TKTS tickets for the show? How much do tickets usually run for good seats?
Hairspray is near its end but that has nothing to do with weather or not there are ticket sales for the sumkmer.
TKTS sells tickets at half price so it would be fifty bucks. The box office sends tickets that they haven't used that day to TKTS so your seats would be located at various parts of the theatre.
If that IS the case for HAIRSPRAY, I expect it to have it's second wind after the film-version comes out on July 20, 2007, like CHICAGO, RENT and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA all did. THE PRODUCERS had no savior with that film-version.
good thing we'll be in town before the film gets released... because if that causes ticket sales to increase then we'd have less of a chance of snatching up some good seats.
hopefully we can all get good tickets to see the show. :) i just hope the summer cast is as good as I remember the OBC cast was. They were AWESOME.
GOOD GRIEF. IT BETTER STAY ON BROADWAY.;-(
Relax people. Hairspray has no plans on closing.

As was said above, only shows that are huge megahits sell tickets far in advance (I'm surprised Wicked isn't selling tickets for next year, it's such a hit). Also, some shows play around with their scheduke frequently to maximize the audience base, so they won't sell tickets until they set the schedule.
You can buy tix through October 31st on this site. Also through October 31st are Lion King, Tarzan, Drowsy, etc.

gee gambler, that doesn't seem like you WORK for ticketsnow at ALL
LOL, um, no. Although, I'm sure they have a great 401k plan.
I just happened to be looking for tix later in the year myself recently and thought I'd make the point that those other shows are also only selling through Oct 31st -- opposed to Jersey Boys and Phantom in which tix are available well into 2008.
People should realize these formu discussions have legs. I have already been asked twice if the show was closing in June. I attribute that to this wildly misguided article.
Just to let people know, if a show is selling tickets till a certain date, it doesn't mean it's closing.
Oh man! you scared the crap out of me!
I hear a certain Off Broadway transfer wants that theatre soon.
But I also hear that HAIRSPRAY will stay till the Movie opens.
The Theatre race is brutal.
with the movie coming 'summer 07' you gotta believe that if its selling tickets through june theres no reason why it wont get a nice summer boost to keep it around a while longer.
I saw one of the Wilbur's at the theater (UTOPIA part 111)
Last evening.
In addition I don't want this show to close. It is in my top five and I adore it. Buy tickets now, I want this to run longer than Cat's.
Ok, I can hear them bells.

When I got tickets at TKTS I got the first mezz. box on the left with my 2 friends. I LOVED the seats, I was so close.
The film opens in movie theatres on Friday July 20, 2007!

What were they thinking??? Harry Potter opens the week before, and the final Harry Potter book comes out at midnight that day. They should move it up to the first weekend in July, or even better, open it in June.
Also, just because a show is selling tickets through a certain date doesn;t mean it will still be running through those dates.

From what I have heard (inside info), the show is in real danger of closing and will be next in line after The Producers leaves town.
