Is LIFE OF PI a limited run?

I've already see the play but a friend of mine is interested in going. HOWEVER, he's heard it's a limited engagement. I'm finding conflicting reports online.

It's selling tickets thru Telecharge until Labor Day weekend.

As of right now tickets are on sale till September 3rd 2023

Depending on how it performs at the Tonys, I can see it remaining a limited run. I can't imagine Hiran Abeysekara will be staying past then since he's an Equity transfer from London and that would take him to about 6 months (incl. rehearsals)

Thank you for your help. Some info I read claimed this was an open-ended run. Others stated tickets were being sold through early Sept. I'm going with the limited run scenario.

Technically, it's open-ended. Most shows only sell in 6-to-9-month blocks. Limited runs will advertise being limited, as it promotes a sense of urgency to come see the show. 

That said, I'd be surprised if it makes it past September. It's not selling that well, and I don't see any Tonys in its future.

Also, it's a British cast, correct? I know there are Equity rules about how long a British cast can stay in an American production,.

For what it’s worth, there are only three performers who came over from London. They are Hiran, who does an amazing job as Pi, as well as Fred Davis and Scarlet Wilderink. They all won Olivier awards for their work. HIran for the role of Pi, Davis and Wilderink also one best feature for their roles as puppeteers for Richard Parker. 

I know that there are rules for how long a British performer can stay in the US to do a a role. But, considering that Hiran elected to not to do the Boston run, I don’t know if that will allow him to stay longer. The Pi alternate, Adi Dixit played the lead during the Boston run, then came to Broadway as the alternate. Whereas the other two mentioned were with the show in Boston.

Hiran has been cast in the role of Nathuram Godse, the lead in the remount of the National Theatre’s The Father and the Assassin, a play about Gandhi and his assassin. This was first staged last year. The play’s run will be from September 8 to October 14, 2023.

I guess it’s safe to say that Life of Pi would probably close after the Tony Awards, unless it sweeps the nominations and wins and it will help increase its sales.

According to a cast member’s Instagram story, Hiran is leaving in July, actual day unspecified.
