Michelle has been phoning it in for at least a year now. But I will say this: Last time I saw Wicked, which was a few weeks ago, she was good. This surprised me because I hadn't seen her perform that way since April of '04 with the OBC.
Michelle would be great spreading her wings, and I think she has plenty of fan-base to get recognition in new projects. And Megan would be a good Nessa as long as she can sing stronger than she does in litte women...but she is dying in that so i'll cut her some slack....

I'm glad to hear that she is still giving good performances, because I really enjoyed her when I saw her. I do have a question, though. What is "phoning it in" mean? I've heard this said about other actors, too, and don't know what it means.
Is it true that she isn't happy playing the role? Then why is she still there?
I realize that it's hard to get jobs and people sometimes get stuck doing this. But if she's "bored to sobs" and phoning in her performances, she wasting her own time and the time of the $100 ticket paying audience.

An actor is "phoning it in" when he or she no longer enjoys their work--and the audience can tell. They're just up there on stage, going through the motions with no energy or enthusiasm.

Ah. I thought maybe it meant they were "phoning in that they weren't coming" or something like that! Thanks!

Kirsti Carnahan (I hope I'm spelling it right), a woman whom some of you may know (she runs the StrawHats auditions) played Marta in KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN pretty much its entire run. I saw her twice (with Chita's understudy and Vanessa's understudy) and she didn't phone it in either time, which would have been easy to do. Maybe the fact that it wasn't too demanding (two small solos, a brief dialogue scene, and the finale) permitted her to focus more energy on it. At any rate, I think that shows that an actor who tries to find new things in a role can stay fresh in it for as long as he or she chooses to play it.

Angelfoodkate, regarding megan mcginnis, i think she sounded lovely on the Little Women recording--not weak at all. just because someone is not belting thru the rafters doesnt mean they're weak singers
yeah, okay supafreak... i didnt say she sounded bad, i just metioned that she was dying... and it doesnt have to be through the ratfers.... by the way, I am totally loving you signature phrase...it does sound a little familiar...

WHOO michelle is going to be in the Julia Roberts starring play. She will be her understudy or standby im not sure, but she will be covering her role
No offence to Michelle but that's a poisoned chalice. I would imagine that if Roberts does ever call out, they'll probably cancel the show rather than put the understudy on as the amount of people who would want to exchange or refund would be massive.

I completely understand, but If I *ever* see this show, I dont know who I would rather see. J.R. doesnt exactly strike me as an actress Id look forward to seeing, but nothing against her. I just dont like her movies. Her acting though, I have no opinion, just that Id probably like to see michelle cause shes somebody I enjoy seeing
That's exciting! Anyone know when it opens and how long it's supposed to run? I love Julia actually, I think she's very endearing...so I would love to see her in a play! But I really love Michelle and REALLY want to see her in a play! So damn all my money to hell the NYC-fund. Awww snap.
