I'm a newbie to this forum, so bear with me if this question has already been asked (I haven't seen it in a few days of lurking...)
What songs from musicals absolutely give you chills when you hear them ? I began thinking about this after seeing you guys rave about Wicked for a few days...then buying the CD this past weekend...lol
My (short) list:
"Defying Gravity" "One Day More" from Les Mis "On My Own" from Les Mis (when Lea Salonga sings it) "Maybe" from Annie "Elaborate Lives" from Aida
That's five off the top of my head....what songs get to YOU ?
I just caught the tour of Les Mis in Raleigh, NC last month, with Randal Keith as ValJean and was pretty well blown away when he sang "Bring Him Home"...I'd never heard Mr. Keith in person, and (honestly) I think I liked his version that night better than I do Colm Wilkinson's...
If we're really talking high chill factor then I have to go with "Molasses to Rum" from 1776...just gives me the chills every time. The first time I saw the show I was looking around the theatre at all the faces and they looked exactly like what mine must have looked like. Just pure shock...
A lot of the songs in Ragtime do that to me, mainly the Coalhouse and Sarah ones. Some songs in Miss Saigon sound so haunting at times, they give me chills. Endless Night from Lion King. JCS has a few. Mamma Look Sharp from 1776. A couple of the ballads in Lippa's Wild Party. And some Boy From Oz songs that I can't think of the names of.
"I'm a cuber, I'm a cuber, I'm a cuber, I'm a cuber, I'm a cuber, I'm a cuber. Please don't take me to the pickle farm."- Brak
Defying Gravity- Wicked I'll Cover You: Reprise- RENT Impossible Dream- MoLM Another Day- RENT All Good Gifts- Godspell Heaven on their Minds- JCS Finale B- RENT One Song Glory- RENT
"The Story Goes On" from Baby "At the Ballet" from Chorus Line "Why" from Tick, Tick... Boom! "Stars and the Moon" from Songs for a New World "Anthem" from Chess
"Singing is the lowest form of communication" - Homer
I just remembered...the BIG RIVER revival...during the number "Waitin' For The Light to Shine"...when the music & singing stopped & only the signing remained.....that was BRILLIANT & it was a great Theater Moment
