Do I think it is time for a mass exodus from Broadway World?  No.  There is so much good to be had here.

I don't try to reason with racists, no matter which side of the Pacific Ocean they call home.  They are bullies.

Didn't your mama teach you not to discuss politics or religion? It is a useless and ultimately very frustrating experience. From what I can tell- reading almost all of the posts- NO ONE- not one person- exemplifies racist attitudes- people come from their own experience- and for each one of us- that is very different. Society is changing- and it takes a lot of push and pull for progress and equality to continue to evolve- Obviously, people are racist, and sexist and everything in between- because we are imperfect beings. That said- I can see that everyone on this board is making an effort to be an agent for a fair and equitable society. Let's leave it alone and talk about less explosive issues- no one is going to persuade anyone- that much is clear. We are all pretty much locked into our own perspectives. I think this board would be a lot better off if the subjects of race, politics and religion were not up for debate. I think we can give our own reflections without somebody coming in and critiquing it. Dave might think he is offering a common sense approach- but he needs to understand that not everyone will agree- nor will those whose experience with being the target of racist attitudes understand why they seem to be excluded too much of the time. I think the R-word (racist) is thrown around too casually- because when it comes down to it- we are all imperfect in one way or another- but at least we have to try to evolve and grow- and everyone here seems to be trying to do that.

Hi everyone, I just returned to my computer for the first time in a few hours, and I'm going to lock this one down for the rest of the night, and go through the posts. I think everyone's perspectives and opinions are clear here. We will examine if reopening the thread is productive in the morning. As I said in another thread last night, obviously people are able to start new threads overnight, so if you feel compelled to do that to continue this debate, please do it in a way that avoids throwing insults at each other. Disagree as much as you want, just try not to go out of your way to insult other posters, or large swaths of people in general. 

We are continuing to monitor, discuss, and adapt how we handle these types of issues. We are a small staff at BWW, and even smaller involved in moderating the boards, but (believe it or not) we hear you, and take all suggestions, feedback, criticisms incredibly seriously (my stomach's been in knots about it for the past few days). 

For those of you that are frustrated to the point of leaving, we are truly sorry that it got to that point for you, and we hope that as we continue to process things and make changes that we can prove to you that the boards still have immense value. And for those that have actively engaged with us in trying to create some consistency and thoughtful best practices, thank you, and please continue to do so.
