He says something like this at one point " I like the smell of sweat of a man after he...dances" but then at another point he says something like " yes I was married once, don't make assumptions" so this confuses me, is he gay or straight?

All we know that he was married (to a woman), which fell apart, and he also has a clear infatuaion with Percy Hyman, the actor who played Robert. He may not identify as gay, or he may be closeted, or he may have come out late in late. It's not particularly clear, nor is it necessarily supposed to be clear.

Posted: 8/18/13 at 2:26pmRandom but, I think the man in the chair is depressed and the only thing that gets him excited and makes him happy is the goldon era of musical theatre! I think if he wasn't as depressed he may state that he is gay but due to confidence issues he won't.

I think part of the fascination with him as a narrator and emcee is getting to know him. Who he really is. Having a bit of a mystery to him and his perspective only says there's more than meets the eye. It keeps us engaged with his character.
