I've actually seen the show several times and quite enjoy it. Granted, the show needs lots of work and fine-tuning.
Of course I want the show to open soon but I'm glad Taymor decided to keep working in order to put out a fantastic production rather than a sub-par one that probably wouldn't re-coup.
Here is to positivity. :)

I wonder if it will make the cut off date for Tony consideration.

It is infinitely better to take the time you need to perfect a show before you open. If they can fix it, no one will remember what the date of opening night was.

And no doubt that's the logic she's using with Foxwoods to get them to agree to these extensions. They'd just better hope that she can deliver on the promise of a clean show with long legs. More and more, I'm getting the sense that her reputation and future prospects of securing money for projects is on the line. Between this fiasco and the dismal reviews (and what's likely to be dismal box office) for "The Tempest," the Julie Taymor brand could begin to be seen as a bit of poison.

"It takes time."
Come on Julie...it's been close to two years now. How much more time do you freaking need?
And she is the one taking the brunt of the hits for "The Tempest." Ok, her and Russell Brand.

I love how all of you attack Julie Taymour like you know her personally or something. I would love to see all of you try and put this show together. You're all acting worse than teenage fans making Alice Ripley their mother on facebook or screaming when Aaron Tveit takes off his shirt for something. ridiculous

I'm seeing this in early January and I hope they've instituted some of the final changes before then.

I have a ticket for late-January. Can I get a refund or change dates?

Thank God!!! I've been saying work weeks that the show would need another delay to get itself fixed. I just hope that extra month is worth it.
With that said, am I the only who is just sick and tired of them blaming the technical parts of the show? The show has much bigger problems than the occasional actor hanging overhead or a set piece not making it on stage on time.
Furthermore, don't blame the show's problems on your inability to have an out-of-town tryout before moving to Broadway. Sure, I get it that you may not have been able to fully stage the show elsewhere, but what happened to just work shopping the book and score!? I almost feel like they spent the previous 5 years thinking about creative acrobatics without figuring out how the music and story actually fit together.

It's not anyone else's job to. I hate when people bring in the "let's see you do better!" argument. It's completely irrelevant.

JULIE, IF YOU'RE READING THIS, PLEASE ADD AN ENCORE AT THE END THAT WILL MAKE US ALL GO HOME SINGING A TUNE.
AT LEAST THEN WE'LL REMEMBER SOMETHING OTHER THAN STUNNING VISUALS.

to everyone who have seen the show:is harry in this musical at all?i heard from a friend that they left his character out and i was hoping it wasn't true because IMO i think the Harry/Peter friendship is an important part in how spider-man becomes who he is.I just think that the friendship was kinda important.I saw the 60 minutes special, the youtube videos and reviews of audience members but i still don't really know what is included/left out of this musical.

The classic retort when all else fails.
Julie is the central point of why this show is so out of control. She's got the budget ballooned to $65M & no where in there did she budget in a book for the show! It's all about the spectacle with her. As long as it looks nice, no one will care that it's really just a pile of dog sh*t.

There's no way it's still at $65 million. That figure was from months ago and now with even more changes, I have no doubt it's up past 80 million.

I agree, if they are adding a new web at the end, pushing back the opening yet again to retool it the budget is going to skyrocket. There are still changes being made to the costumes and effects. If they start re=staging things changing the book etc the woooosh of money being sucked out of wallets will be heard for miles

I personally don't see how anyone is attacking Julie Taymor. But, when your show has been delayed so long, with a lot of publicity, people are going to talk and joke about it. I'm not even going to get into the outrageous budget or how it sounds like there were no ideas or additional material to work with in the preview period, which is really sad. Or, am I wrong about that?

i'm a huge U2 Fan and cannot wait to see this based on the music alone. But I have to wonder what the heck was Taymor thinking when she wrote this show -- why does a show need to have a 4 month tryout before opening? Why wasnt the book solidified and why are they continuing to change things? I feel like she had so much time to get it together....
Still cannot wait to see this show but for the life of me cannot understand why its spun totally out of control like this?
Who is her agent and manager to let her run wild like this? Titus was awful and I hear that The Tempest is a disaster (it will come and go...)

She has been stricken with Michael Cimino syndrome.
He won the oscar for The Deer Hunter & they opened the vault for him with Heavens Gate. You read the account of what went on behind the scenes & see the documentary Final Cut it sounds like Julie in male drag & not pantaloons. The movie layed a colossal egg at the box office & destroyed a studio (United Artists). This has a taste of de ja vu. He was a one hit wonder
The funny thing is when you watch it now on DVD it is not half bad.The investors will take a colossal bath as you know the reviews will not be kind as the critics are just lying in wait. This can never recoup. They should have chalked up their losses early on and just released the score for U2 fans. It would have been easier for everyone.

Can never recoup? Nonsense...it will just take 5 or 6 years. I'm sure the investors REALIZE that. Let's see ARE there any shows that have ever lasted that long? Hmmm.....Rent, Phanotm, Les Miz, Mamma Mia, Wicked, Jersey Boys, Lion King. Well, a few.
WILL this never recoup? Don't know. But it seems ridiculous for them to not even TRY at this point.
Note: I am not championing this show, I won't see it for another week (and my expectations are low), but the thought that it can never be a success is simply pre-posterous. Is it a long shot? Possibly. But it also has the potential to be a huge success -- remember, the folks that make b'way a financial success are often impressed with spectacle over any sort of substance. And of course, there is still the chance that it can be "fixed".
