I recently decided to by a newer DVD of the great movie. However, I'm not sure where to find the DVD with the film at it's fullest; over the years the film has been brutally cut multiple times. I'm especially interested in the 2001 release with the separate DVD with an hour of extra footage.

Can anybody help or give any suggestions? Thank you!

Criterion released it a few months ago.

As with all Criterion titles, it is the definitive edition.

Have you seen the Criterion Collection one yet? I haven't but would think would be the most concise as it is a 5 disc set. Maybe someone else has seen it.

I never get tired of watching this film. Every time I see it I find something new. It still holds up and damn Ethel Merman is hilarious in it. The Criterion Collection Edition is definitive and  worth every penny. If you love this film that is the one to get.

Yes, Ethel is probably the best part of the movie!

Should be on off topic board

I think some of the commercially released ones are still cut. Awhile ago TCM aired it at the completest one I know of at 3 hours & 5 minutes I believe. I burned a copy of it than.

The only thing missing from the original shown in its roadshow engagemment was a 5 minute conversation between spencer Tracy & Buster Keaton re the getaway.

Definitely wrong board. Are any of the original cast still living?

Rooney and Hackett were some of the last ones. I am guessing but I think the answer to your question is ,I believe, no.

I read somewhere the original cut  of the movie was 5 hours. Would love to see the missing footage which is probably long gone.

Barrie Chase is still very much alive! She was Dick Shawn's dancing partner.

I said I was guessing. I honestly thought all were gone.

She had a very small role .

I cringe when I see the cut version. I remember seeing this on a Cinerama screen at the long gone Warner Cinerama a/k/a Mark Strand.Sadly opened right after JFK'S assassination .

Erin, I've never actually watched it (I hope you're referring to the movie), but after having read about it, it looks like I'm going to watch it :)

Barrie Chase was also Fred Astaire's dancing partner on a number of TV specials.

What does this have to do with Broadway? Or even theatre in general?

It has everything to do with Broadway - - - some excellent theater performers are in it.

Really now, if we only talked about productions ON BROADWAY on BWW half, probably three quarters, of the threads here wouldn't exist.

I've actually never seen this movie start to finish, but always wanted to!

The opening scene as to how they divide up the money is a classic.

The same cannot be said for the obvious stunt doubles and poor process photography.

Ethel Merman does steal the show as Milton Berle's mother in law from hell
