Actually, this is a story from the Old Testament - so there's Nothing Christian themed about it...

Considering this story takes place in the book of Genesis - thousands of years before Christ was born...
How is that BS?
Hate this simplistic childish borderline Panto show.....and I toured with it and still hate it.
"Yes. But your beloved revival is being proposed in one of the largest melting pots in the world, home to a myriad of religions. Not to mention, New York is one of the most culturally Jewish areas in the world."
OY. One of the stupidest posts I've ever read on BWW. I'm not a religious person, but even I know what is wrong with your thought process. I don't even feel like explaining why this is a ridiculous comment.
"I have done it 3 times for Christ sakes. "
That explains a lot.
Face it, you are one of the only people that enjoy that pile.

My comment before had nothing to do with joseph.
Yeah, being a musical with Christian themes helped GODSPELL, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, SISTER ACT, LEAP OF FAITH and SCANDALOUS.
Of course, there were many other factors to each of those productions' relative misfortunes. But the "Christian themes" argument doesn't look too good in their wake. Meanwhile, THE BOOK OF MORMON hasn't played to an empty seat since it opened...

Which is exactly why people wouldn't pay Broadway ticket prices when they could see it locally for much less, plus they would know every kid in the chorus.

That is a horrible reason to not bring a revival to Broadway. If you want to say that Joseph shouldn't be revived thats fine, but you need to come up with better reasons to support your statement if you want me to take you seriously.
ABit, that is not my thought process. You're new. You don't know how I post or my thought process.
I responded to a slippery slope with a slippery slope. I at no point said certain people will not enjoy a show due to their beliefs. A post mentioned Christianity as a reason, I mentioned Judaism in a rebuttal. Don't make a problem when there is none. I am not a religious person at all either, and there is a reason you're the only person taking my post seriously.
Not having a potential ticket buying audience isn't a good reason to not bring a show to broadway? Than what is?

But. But, but, he did it three times and really, really, really likes the show!
There's that whole Profumo Affair thing... I doubt ALW would put that on the back burner to mount Joseph....
(HA! I said, "mount Joseph"...)

I don't, nor any other song from the show. I think Broadway is Christianed-out at the moment. Also, as Diva says, it's been over saturated in schools and community theaters - why pay Broadway prices to see it?

NO MOST THEATER KIDS DO NOT KNOW JOSEPH. Most of the theater kids YOU know very well might -- because you just did the show. Three times. In my community, do one has done the show is YEARS and YEARS, so the kids are NOT (like many posters here) familiar with it. In fact, the last time I can remember it being locally produced is about 12 years ago. That's a lot of theater kids that haven't seen or been introduced to it.
Once again, regardless of the conversation, you want to be right. So here: you are right. Joseph is a great idea for a revival. We will all love it.
Happy now?

If it was revived, I would love to see Shoshana Bean kick bootie as the narrator. I think she would be awesome.

I'm sure the possibility of a revival has been looked at every so often, however, I just can't imagine there really being a larger enough audience to keep the show running for more than 6-8 months. I could be wrong, though. I know the show has been popular in the past 2 or so years amongst community/regional theaters.
If it did happen though, I'm sure it would be pretty darn easy to cast.

Holy crap! calm down crazy. No i dont want to JUST be right,im just debating. DO YOU KNOW WHAT A DEBATE IS? ARE YOU AN EDUCATOR? jesus. Its fine if you don't want a Joseph revival, its not like it will be happening anytime soon. I just though it was a cool idea and wanted to here everyone else's opinion. Do you want me to just agree everyone and say "oh yeah you are right and i am wrong". No. Because then what is the freakin point of a message Board?
Can you say one thing to me that isn't condescending and just plain out bitchy? Jesus christ, is that how you act around your kids? i feel bad for them if it is...

Why was this show ever vived? Why has it ever needed to be revived?

Since it's from Genesis, I think there should be a revival from the Creationist point of view. Joseph can ride around on a dinosaur.
