Saw Gentlemen Prefer Blondes tonight and completely loved it. As with recent Encores offerings this is a fully realized production; the dancing is more impressive than anything seen in New York this year.
Rachel York is fantastic as Dorothy Shaw. Her vocal stylings are perfect for the period and she dances well too. I bet she'll make a great Reno in Anything Goes tour.
Megan Sikora's star has never shone more brightly than tonight. Mamie is Mimi is showstopping. We've seen flashes of her talent before, but this choreography let her take off.
And of course there's Megan Hilty. She nailed it and by the time Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend rolled around the audience was whipped into such a frenzy the applause wouldn't stop until long after the following scene attempted to start. I really, really love her.
This type of show is what Encores does very well. Pure joy and fun, much like Where's Charley from a season or two ago. Do not miss this.

Posted: 5/10/12 at 12:37amI'm so jealous. I saw the video they released earlier today of Ivy singing "Diamonds" and I thought she looked and sounded great.

All shows on Broadway should thank their lucky stars that Encores is not eligible for Tonys because they would clean up every year. I'm mad I'm so busy this week, but I'm going to try to see it again. It would be a shame to only see this once.
Ivy needs to sing Diamonds on Smash in a dream sequence. It was thrilling.

I wish you had considered that some people might not know who Ivy Lynn is, (I certainly didn't), and might be mystified by the title of your thread.
Why can't the simplest matters be presented simply and straightforwardly?

"All shows on Broadway should thank their lucky stars that Encores is not eligible for Tonys because they would clean up every year. "
Shows that have closed that are deserving or winning a tony, rarely even get nominated let alone win. So I think if Encores! were eligible for Tony Awards they would rarely ever be nominated.

Ha, oh After Eight. Always good for a laugh!
It's a safe assumption that most people on this board know Megan Hilty plays the Sydney Andrews wannabe, Ivy Lynn on Smash.

Instead of assuming, or presuming, just write Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at Encores. That's all.
Thanks for changing that.

Yes, we all know Ivy is played by the subleeme Megan, but Loreli is being played by Hilty. Since you loved her so much, give the girl her props.
Can I get a $25 tkt if I show up at the BO?
How is the handsome Clarkey Thorell?

Posted: 5/10/12 at 1:22amJust John- I wasn't being completely serious when I said that. I just meant that the quality of these Encores production are much better than the vast majority of shows that reach Broadway. How were the performances so good and so well learned in such a short time? How was the dancing so crisp and perfect? The Dancing from "I Love What I'm Doing" alone should have taken a week to master.

Posted: 5/10/12 at 1:29amIt's a shame Ivy's selfish mother chose to do a concert in Boston rather than support her daughter, but what else is new? Did anybody see Derek in the back of the house?
#15Ivy Lynn takes Encores by storm!
Posted: 5/10/12 at 6:42amI saw Derek. He was there for a few minutes but sneaked out when Black Mamba licked her lips at him and walked out during the opening number.

I agree with After Eight, Whizzer, and don't think any frame of reference should be assumed. I would have advised you to have offered the following subject line:
Ivy (a hanging plant) Lynn (girl's name) = Ivy Lynn (character on NBC's (a national network traditionally branded by a peacock) SMASH, a dramatic series about the making of a Broadway (street in New York City, alternatively the New York City theater district, world, or style of performance attributed to it) musical (a form of theatrical performance in which, generally, dialogue, singing and dancing meld into storytelling, but which may also include musical revues (same, minus the storytelling)), and played by Megan Hilty, an American (relating to the continents of North and South America but commonly relating to the United States of America - a country in North America, known foremost as the birthplace of Ethel Merman -, describing its citizens and other attributes) actress (a portrayer of roles in theatrical or other media performances, who is also a woman or girl, although "actor" can be used for both genders) , takes (acquires, assumes) Encores (repetitions of a performance, often upon demand, when capitalized, may refer to a series of limited performance concerts (or semi-staged performances) of musicals (see above) which often have historical or other value to its audience (a group of New York theater aficionados, the kind one might find at broadwayworld.com (familiarity assumed if you are reading this), who are usually, but not always, familiar with people, places and events theatrical - but , as I just said, not always thus familiar (therefore requiring this lengthy subject line))) at New York City's City Center (a theatrical venue compromising a 2,750-seat Moorish Revival theater located at 131 West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues in Manhattan, New York City. It is one block south of Carnegie Hall) by (causative preposition) storm (volatile climactic event usually characterized by voluminous precipitation).
This would avoid misunderstandings.
Alternatively, of course, people could simply do what I do when I come across something I am unfamiliar with here or elsewhere in my life. I google it.

I saw Eileen go into the stage door after the show. Oh wait, it was a Cher drag queen. Nevermind.
Eileen couldn't go. She was in tech.
