They already did a sequel - it came out in 2024 featuring songs by Barlow & Bear of The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical fame.

I wonder if any show can compete with the number of Gilbert and Sullivan productions that sprang up during their heyday in the late 1800’s. Apparently as many as 8 (unauthorized!) productions of HMS Pinafore ran in New York simultaneously in 1879.

Saw the show last night with Mariska. I’d call it good rather than great, but I did enjoy it. I was particularly surprised and delighted when Betty Buckley, sitting in the first row of onstage seating, was cast in the role of Mrs Patterson.

With the caveat that I haven’t seen Stephanie Hsu in Rocky Horror yet, I think Marla Mindelle is the only one in the category giving a real star turn.  I’d personally give it to her, although I suppose the smart money is probably on Caissie Levy.

I saw this press release and thought to myself, “didn’t they announce this project years ago, starring L Morgan Lee?”  And indeed they did:

Interesting to note that the original bookwriter/lyricist, Katie Lam, is no longer attached. She was elected a conservative MP in 2024 - make of that what you will!

Death of a Salesman is selling $10 group tickets to NYC public schools, which I assume has contributed to this.  I’ve also heard it’s shown up on TDF a few times, but I haven’t checked that myself.

Any thoughts on the double-nomination for Danielle Fiamanya and Georgina Onuorah for Brigadoon?  I guess it’s not really any different than what they did for Matilda, but it still strikes me as a little odd.

If Laufey actually wanted to do the show, I think she’d be a better fit replacing Dez Duron as a gender-swapped “Jill” Brentley.

That review is indeed amusing, although the writer loses a lot of points with me when she describes an opening number that does not actually appear in this production.

Interesting - that’s a lot more than I would have imagined. I’d love to hear more about where all that money goes. (Orchestrator’s fees? Music copying? Additional orchestra calls?)

I’ve worked in ticketing and what I was told (and a cursory google search seems to confirm) is that the ADA has a lot of requirements regarding the availability and pricing of seats for patrons with mobility impairments, but has no such requirements for seating for patrons with visual impairments.

Saw the show last night. The biggest issue I had was that it’s just not funny.  I kept thinking back to TOOTSIE, which was a similarly outlandish and unrealistic backstage musical comedy but was so much easier to swallow thanks to its genuinely funny book.  Brooks Ashmanskas is doing admirable comedic work but there’s only so much he can wring out of what he’s given.

I’m hearing that they’re putting Marsha Mason (who is also the show’s associate director) on for Mia at today’s performance. Can anyone confirm?

Does anyone know if they moved the physical production from LA to Broadway?  I can imagine if they weren't confident the LA production would run with Dunaway, they might have felt it was less risky to close it rather than build a new set/costumes for NY.

Saw the show tonight and basically liked it. I think it’s at its worst when it deals with the specifics of the filming Jaws - parts of it felt like a recitation of trivia from the Wikipedia page on the film - but gets a lot more interesting when the characters discuss other topics: acting as a profession, their relationships with their fathers, etc.
