I really like his writing, but yeah I don't really like his singing. It is very nasal and not particularly unique. But I love TBD in a lot of other aspects besides his singing. That's just me though.

Posted: 3/23/08 at 10:19amI love TBD but yeah, I pretty much agree with you about his voice. I feel like it might be cute for a character role, but I can't see him (or hear) as a leading man.

Posted: 3/23/08 at 11:30amI've watched a TON of the UMich videos, and I feel like they're all extremely talented, but they all sound the same. They seem like cookie-cutter singers and actors. Specifically if you watch the video of the girls singing Dreamgirls, about 4 or 5 different girls have solos in the very beginning, and if you aren't looking at the screen you wouldn't know it was different people.

Posted: 3/23/08 at 1:08pmLets take one minute off from the jake bashing, and just admire the incredible Marketing talents that these U of Mich kids have. Most of us knew there names before they were ever even in a Broadway show. We are even discussing the talent of someone who still has yet to be in a show on Broadway. You don't ahve to like them, but it is impressive how they have marketed themselves.

although everything said on this thread may be true, i find it really childish to create a thread with the intent of bashing someone who is really an incredibly hard working actor with brilliant self-marketing skills.
UMich and a lot of the top MT schools may have a cookie cutter mold, but if the students in these last couple of classes are any indication of the program (Pasek and Paul, Keenan-Bolger, Wilson) these kids clearly understand that they have to work their asses off to succeed and do it with flying colors. I therefore highly respect Wilson, his hard work, and the program for the aforesaid reason.

Posted: 3/23/08 at 10:28pmThat's a good point about their Marketing, Tanner. I never thought of it like that. I go to UMich, so I've seen most of them in things here, but the fact that people around the nation in the theatre community know of them, really is amazing.
