I got you Kavana.
Silent, Heather Headley couldn't pull Lorell off because it was out of her range. Fantasia has that high pitched shrill voice, which is similar to Loretta Divine's. It's not about who's the better singer, it has to do with voice type and range.
And what would Deborah Cox possibly be able to bring to this film? She's not bringing a name nor any great talent. I can think of atleast 20 others who deserve a part over her.

I always thought it would be neat to see the three American Idol divas as the Dreams. Jennifer Hudson as Effie, Fantasia Barrino as Lorell, and LaToya London as Deena.
Then again, I've never seen the show, so what do I know? PLus, none of them really have star power to make people want to see it.

I mostly remember Fantasia as the girl who managed to mangle the national anthem in ways I'd never heard it mangled before- and I've heard a few pretty memorable renditions.
Anyway, I'm mostly indifferent to Jamie Foxx and Usher. As everyone's been saying, this movie will depend on its Effie. I also think that good writing and direction can wring pretty good performances out of almost anyone who isn't playing too far from their type.

I say BWAY has a place for everyone, those that call J.Foxx's lips kissable, and those that call it jigga...
I don't think Fantasia really has the acting chop to play Lorell, especially a young woman transforming into a 'real woman'...she is a mother and her maturity shows everywhere. Just my opinion.

You're posting on a message board; everybody reads the messages. Your insult addressed a person who is a public personality. I don't see why I should have ignored it.
And no, I wasn't aware that "jiggy" meant black person. This would mean that Jamie Foxx has "nasty black person lips"? I'm just trying to parse your post here. Because it's kind of weird that you would be using that as an insult one second after waving a weird sort of black pride flag.

Any great talent? What are you smoking? She's a helluva alot more talented than Fantasia, that's for sure. And I encourage you to name these 20 others.

Deborah Cox proved herself in Aida... and I think that she is just great.
I am NOT going to see this movie. They are just butchering a musical and adding a bunch of "pop stars". I think it's a stupid idea, and its just another reason for me NOT to see the movie. Not that I was ever planning to

Silent, I'm not saying that Deb isn't talented, but she's not bring anything that many other entertainers could bring. And as for Fantasia, she fits into the role of Lorell. Deb doesn't fit any of the parts. She's not powerful enough for Effie, too powerful and hard looking for Deena, and too old for Lorell. Ther is no way she could play Lorell opposite Beyonce.
And as for Fantasia's already being a mother, I don't think that really matters because even though she has a mature mother vibe about her she is also very vibrant and youthful. She would have no problem doing the part. It's close to her type, so she wouldn't have to stretch too much.
As for the 20 + (based on star quality, singing ablility, acting ability or any combination of the 3)

Mary J. Blige

In reference to the article - I was very surprised that Foxx is set to play Curtis. He seems almost too perfect for Jimmy Early. That confuses me the most.
Usher? ugh. Taye would have been PERFECT as C.C.
I am so excited to see who they get for Effie and Lorell.

Truth, some of those names on that list of yours are laughable. Many of the qualities that you attribute as reasons why Deb shouldn't be in the film apply to many of the people on your list. Anyways, you and I will probably never see eye-to-eye..so I'm moving on.
I think Taye Diggs would have been a nice addition to the cast but he's in "Rent" so I doubt he's mad about not being apart of this flick. I'm a lil' curious as to how Don Cheadle will fit in chemistry wise.

As long as Barbra Streisand stays out of this film, I think it will be a complete success.
And for those of you ragging on Usher's acting, I highly doubt you have seen any film he has been in. (And if you saw the Faculty or She's All That, it really doen't count)
