re: Jamie Foxx and Usher Join Dreamgirls Film

I have read this whole thread and it is hilarious...I am a former DREAMGIRLS cast member and know the show very well...so far the casting is on point..the only problem if any, would be Eddie Murphy as Thunder Early...it could work and be the comic relief. I would actually love to see Jennifer Hudson or even Frenchie Davis be Effie...the audition notices said Effie should be full-figured not obese. Funny. It also said that all 3 girls should be able to play from age 16 and up...AND lastly Fantasia would be delicious as Lorrell..

Anyway, that is my choice....maybe the original dreams will have cameos like Deena's mother (Sheryl Lee), Miss Edna (Loretta Devine) and what I wuold love to see is Jennifer Holiday as an aged Effie looking back at the whole thing and the whole "show" be her flashback..

They are also adding the character of "Magic," Effie's daughter-who will be singing a song and (sounds fishy) a little 10 year old african american boy who idolizes Deena...hmmm. who does that sound like...

Take Care all and I cannot wait to hear more casting news....

Aloha for now,
Johnny

I don't see the point of putting Magic in the movie. I think Deena's mother is an excellent choice. I also hope they don't add a ten year old boy who idolizes Deena. Deena is already Diana like do they really need a character thinly vield on Micheal Jackson.

"In other Usher big-screen news, the singer said he's still developing a movie project with MTV Films. He also set the record straight about "Dreamgirls," the Beyoncé-starring musical that Variety reported he had joined, but that Usher's mother/manager later said he hadn't (see "Usher's Manager/Mom Denies 'Dream' Role Opposite Beyonce").

"There was consideration and conversation about it, [but] I'm not greenlit for the film yet," Usher said. "But it's a great film for me to be a part of ... if ... let me get that check, man!""

You have got to be kidding. "Dreamgirls" was a great show.

You're right, arrogant is probably the wrong word, but there's something about him that puts me off.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I still think that Fantasia is a good consideration for Lorell, but that's not why I'm posting this message. I want to talk about the role of Jimmy. I think that Tyrese is a canidate good for role based on the fact he is a wonderful singer a more than fairley decent actor. Just wondering who you all think should be casted and do not say Eddie Murphey

re: Jamie Foxx and Usher Join Dreamgirls Film

Ron, GhettoBway posted about the Dreamgirls casting notices a couple weeks back. There is a seperate thread about it.

Dreamboy, I love Tyreese's voice, but I think his look is not good for the film. He looks to exotic and modelesque to me. Maybe with hair he will look diffrent?

I'm watching "Coming To America" right now and Eddie Murphy is singing...I think his real life flop attempt at a singing career will work well with the character. Though, I do like my Jimmy's to be able to sing.

If Eddie doesn't get it what about Tommy Davidson from "In Living Color." He's very funny and can sing his butt off. The only problem is he's not a name, but this role could bring him out in a new light.

Also, if Usher doesn't end up playing C.C. my vote goes to Jason Weaver (who played Micheal Jackson in "The Jacksons")

I think that Tommy Davidson is great choice as Jimmy so is Jason Weaver. I forgot Jason could sing and his acting is prett well also. He did his thing on Chingy's album

How about we don't put them in the movie at all. As being they were not in the movie. The whole Campbel connection scenario really doesn't sit well with me.

re: Jamie Foxx and Usher Join Dreamgirls Film

I do not want Usher in this movie for one reason and one reason only, because he has no respect for Dreamgirls. He only cares about money and it's how much he gets that will make or break the deal. I am not black, but I know a ton of black actors who would give their right arm for any role in this movie and now they might give it to some r&b skank who only cares about money. There are so few great roles for black actors in the movies now that it just pisses me off to hear Usher just come out and say "let me get that check", he doesn't deserve the role. Please Bill Condon drop his Michael Jackson wanna-be ass.

re: Jamie Foxx and Usher Join Dreamgirls Film

Jarred03 I totally feel where you are coming form because there are many that feel dreamgirls is a masterpiece and people such as Sheryl Lee Ralph hold this musical very dear to their heart. And For Usher to only want to be apart of for money is rather disrespectful. I hope he doesn't think he should be making as much as Beyonce ,Jamie Foxx ,and who ever plays Effie. The role of C.C. is a supporting role so he is not a leading character as the three mentioned above. But on to other news I read on St.Peterbergs Times that Fantasia auditioned for Dreamgirls friday. I hope they cast her.

I wonder how good a chance Fantasia has at landing that role. Why an Unknown for Effie and not Lorell too. Everybody knows who fantasia is. All this casting stuff scares me.
