She certainly has had an incredible year with The Royal Family and now Lend Me a Tenor. She is a wonderful actress and is becoming overdue in my opinion. She proved her versatility moving from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to Coram Boy and was recognized for both stunning performances. This year she gave two lauded performances and in addition to her nominated and current work she most certainly is an actor's actor and a character actress who has been doing excellent work for years on and off broadway and I have a feeling this could be the year she wins a Tony. She seems likely to be nominated in the lead category for The Royal Family but I am not sure about Lend Me a Tenor. Some ways I look at it, it could be two small a role to be noticed but I also think if she gets in I could see her being the frontrunner. I think my hesitation comes from the fact that this category hasn't been discussed too much.
Your Thoughts?
There was just a thread about this a few days ago but anything that brings her name up is fine and dandy with me!
I don't think she has a chance in hell of a Tony win in Supporting actress this year (too many other bigger, stronger roles she'd be against) but her performance last year in THE ROYAL FAMILY was something that still hasn't been topped so I'm praying she can win for that one. In case you couldn't tell, I'm in love with her.
I think she'll be nominated in both categories, but sadly, probably won't win either one.
Shame, too. This woman should be a star. And if you ask me, she should have won a Tony for her work in Chitty (where she made that mess watchable, and was the only one not upstaged by the car).
Well, Marc was brilliant in CHITTY as well and the two of them together were perfection. And there is NOBODY working in theater right now as funny as she is or hell, maybe even as talented overall as she is. To me, she IS a star. :)
I thought Maxwell already had the Tony in her bag?
Naw, girl! Someone done gone and snatched that Tony right up out her bag on the subway!
Alice Ripley took it out of her bag.
Guuuuuuurl, Alice Ripley be stealin' stuff all over this city! They pat her down and go through her bag when she leave Best Buy cuz girlfriend be stickin dvd players and junk up her skirt.
So who stole Alice Ripley's sanity? Jan Maxwell?
Neither Jan nor Alice have been in possession of anyone's sanity for quite some time.
I hope she wins for TENOR.
Jordan, you crack me up!

Looking at it realistically, her role in LMAT is basically a supporting one and she should be nominated for best supporting actress for that show. But there's no question that she's the nominal lead in The Royal Family. Even if she's nominated in both categories (I think the same thing happened with Amanda Plummer some years back), I fear she won't take either award. But I agree with all of you who think it's long overdue. She falls in the line of great troopers who grace the Broadway stage, year-in and year-out, with occasional forays into movies and television to pay the bills. But their hearts belong to live New York theatre. What would the New York theatre scene be without them?
I don't feel like her role is Tony-worthy at all. I think the male leads are really the ones that shine in this play.
The women are all equally funny; Jan, Brooke, Jennifer and Mary.
But I think that the only ones that should get nominated if anyone would get nominated for this play would be either Anthony, Tony or Justin. Tony was the stand out for me, as well as Justin, who surprised the public with a very good performance from a non-Broadway actor.

Here's the previous thread that discussed Jan Maxwell's Tony chances.
