After listening to the Jekyll & Hyde CD last night, I was just wondering what all the fuss was about? I think it's a pretty solid show. There are a couple of lyrics that I don't really care for, but I like the score. I think most of the songs are catchy. Though I haven't seen the show Live, i think it would be amazing to see it live. How were the sets? How were the speical effects? I'm curious as to how he transfomrs and whatnot. Anyone have any pictures? Video? thanks.

I saw the UK tour and it was pretty basic set. There was like a bridge thing and then they just bought tables and chairs and stuff on. The transformation scene was awful, it looked like a high school production. The cast though, were fantastic. The girl who played Lucy was amazing, massive belt! However, the entire show was destroyed by the guy playing Jeckyll! When i left the theatre people were so disgusted they had torn his profile out of the programe and left it by the stage.

The show IS an incredible, solid show. People just like to hate on Frank Wildhorn.
The score is great.
The staging was a little - bleh. From what I hear, it was better (A LOT better) before it made it to Broadway.
Linda Eder is amazing - I also recommend the Complete (Anthony Warlow) version.
Dangerous Game - Anthony + Linda = "Eargasm"

I like the score. I do not find it that consistent; I think some songs are a lot better than the others. But I love Bob Cuciolli (despite what alot of people seem to think of him ...) Linda Eder and all the other performers (don't any other names =P)

Well, it wasn't even nominated for a Tony was it? That disappoints me. I wish i had seen the tour when it came back in the day, but I was young at the time and my parents were afraid it was a bit "too adult" for me. How do they do the transformation? Anyone remember who played Jekyll in the US tour? I remember it being someone somewhat famous? A singer of some old band?
Robert Cuccioli was the show's only nomination.
People don't like to hate Frank Wildhorn - people are sick of his mediocrity. JEKYLL AND HYDE has some decent music, but power-ballads and pop love songs with shoddy lyrics cannot carry a show. I thought the staging was pretty good and the set design was gorgeous, but overall the show was just a bore.

Really? I never saw the show, just the recording and I think most of the songs are really good. I don't understand the point of the secong girl though. I'm kind of confused on the story. I know emily likes jekyll right? i'm surprised the show wasn't nominated at all. didn't titanic win that year? i personally think it's better than titanic.
Emma (or Lisa - depending) is engaged to Jekyll.
Lucy is a prostitute and the Red Rat and falls for Jekyll, and then Hyde falls in love with her.

Oh okay, thanks. I was just wondering how the actor playing Jekyll did Hyde. Like was his face messed up or did he have a different walk for Hyde? Did he have any like physical disabilites? ... if that makes sense.
It depends.
The actor wore a long haired wig that became disheveled when he was Hyde. Also, different lighting (more blue for Hyde). Hyde was also played left handed (like when recording notes in the journal).
Obviously, the actor would sound different (except for Hasselhoff - btu that's a different story). Hyde would be played evil - like an escapee from the local prison.

Okay. yeah on the recording he does sound different but at times slips back into jekyll but i guess its hard to hit some of the notes w/ that growl in your voice. I was just wondering, theres one song in the middle, after 'this is the moment' where he first becomes hyde, i was wondering how that was done? and that end song where jekyll and hyde are fighting to me is brilliant.

omg i love this show. beautiful music! i've stage managed it once for a teen theatre company and have seen it done 3 other times buy 3 other companies/schools. i wish i could see a broadway/tour of it
HAHA, you need the DVD!
He just kind of falls on the floor and roles around, messes up his hair, changes his countenance and is Hyde.
The Confrontation scene is a bit disappointing. Before I saw the DVD, I was in your position and started a thread called B*tch, B*tch, B*tch on the message board. Go (bump it) and look through it. I know that it says all the different ways Confrontation was staged.
On B'way, it had the actor standing there and he would turn his head back and forth and the lighting would change. Somewhat boring.
Somewhat boring? I thought it was slightly clever and was one of the few things in the show that worked. He also flipped his hair from side to side. When he was Jekyll, his hair appeared short. When he was Hyde, his hair hung to one side, all greasy and messy. I liked that part. Boring? Come on.
I saw it pre-Broadway in Denver with Eder and Cuccioli's understudy. (Cuccioli didn't pay attention to the high altitude instructions and kept losing his voice.) The pre Broadway tour was the complete version done by Warlow. The sets were not as nice as the sets on B'way. (Which I didn't think were that great either.) But it had a really cool special effect for the confrontation. It was a big mirror that had "Hyde" in it and sang the part of Hyde. It was cool enough to get big time applause when the song was done. It was removed from the show due to a dispute with the effect's creator and the people connected with the show. I forget what the dispute was but the creator of the effect had the rights and pulled it. We also got to hear Linda Eder do "Bring on the Men" which they replaced with another song for the B'way run. I think they put it back in later in the B'way run. It was back in the show when it returned to Denver on the B'way tour. Having seen both productions, I think I liked the pre-Broadway production better.

I've wanted to see Jekyll and Hyde for such a long time, and just yesterday I realized my library had a video of one of the performances (w/Hasselhoff) I think when it was on broadway? I don't know much about the different actors who played in it sorry. I just know it wasn't the orignal actors. Anyway, I love the show/music!!! Maybe I'm weird because I love it so much... Yes, there were weak parts of it, but overall I still like it.
I saw the show and thought it was SOLID. I loved it!!! ...would have liked a little more development of Emma but I think its a tough role...to make convincing and genuine

There's a video...interesting...where does one find said video...

Unfortunately it stars David Hasselhoff.
uncageg - I don't think they replaced Good 'n' Evil with Bring on the Men on Broadway...I think after they replaced BotM with GnE they left it.
We throughy enjooyed it. My wife was royally pissed that Bring On The Men was not in the Broadway production. Speaking to Eder by the stage door, she was not happy with it being dropped either.
We love Wildhorn's music & find it more listenable than a lot of what the critics rave about. Power Ballads? What do you call "You'll Never Walk Alone " ? This is the power ballad to end all power ballads. It is a classic but if Wildhorn wrote it, it would be called pop music & "cheesy bombast" (one critic's take on Wildhorn's music)

i saw the obc and thought it was a nice score-- linda and christiane's ovation after "in his eyes" was amazing. my voice teacher even let me do "this is the moment" at my last vocal jury (in 199
