Another plum role that got away was Fiyero in the “Wicked” movie. “I didn’t show up with what they wanted so I had to try to make last-minute adjustments and it was clearly not going well,” he said of the audition. “They were like, ‘Well, you sound great. Goodbye.’”

I was wondering a few days ago why he hasn't played Fiyero but I guess he prefers to originate roles rather than be a replacement?

I wanted Jeremy too. But I’m fine with Jonathan Bailey
Glad Jonathan Bailey got it. I can watch that "Dancing Through Life" Library sequence all day long!

I think it's because Fiyero needs to be tall.
Totally. Just like how Norbert Leo Butz was super tall.
To be real, they probably saw every 25-35 year old in Hollywood and New York who could sing, so almost everybody was up for Fiyero at some point.

To be fair, the casting for the role following the original cast has gone in a very different direction. It's hard to imagine someone like a Norbert Leo Butz circa 2003 being cast in the role today.

I doubt that. For example, Butz and Diggs are not tall men.
Oh, I was just mocking Seb for being ignorant (once again) considering Jeremy and Jonathan are one inch apart.
I think he would have been great as a stage inspired Fiyero, but he doesn’t fit the role’s reimagining as a joyously pansexual, super camp bon vivant. That choice powers the entire movie’s engine, since the are they or aren’t they of Elphaba and Glinda takes place in a world that is openly ale constantly sexually fluid.

This is exactly correct- there is literally a height minimum in the casting breakdown for the Broadway/tour production. Norbert would be “typed out” and not even given the chance to audition for the role.

I love Jeremy as much as the next guy but I really don't think he would be a fitting Fiyero. He's not quite the most skilled dancer and he doesn't really exude the whole flamboyant energy thing. However I still would like a video of him singing dancing through life or as long as you're mine to listen to on repeat please and thank you
