Maybe my viewing of this is colored, but... I just felt like I was watching an interview with Ari Gold -- with a total bull**** artist. I'd like to feel badly for him, I really would, but there was NO sincerity in that interview. He couldn't even manage to fake it well?
(He did look good, though.)
I did too. And he even made his case "legit" by mentioning that Diane Sawyer knew his family, etc. I have not seen the show, but from what I have seen, if he was having a hard time getting through rehearsals, I don't think he would have made it through the few performances he did. I wonder if we will hear from his co-stars in the show or if they are being asked not to comment? I'll call Raul now and get the real scoop!
He made it through more than a few performances. He made it through almost THREE MONTHS of the run.

This is all a terrible slap in Raul's face.

I'm still confused as to when he was in the hospital for THREE DAYS...if it was during the run, wouldn't he have missed a show? And even if he hadn't missed a show because of it, wouldn't "Jeremy Piven Hospitalized" popped-up somewhere? Perez Hilton seems to follow his every move, I figured it would have been there.
What a weird story. And it keeps getting weirder.
I'm glad the show is in good hands, though.

He just keeps digging himself in deeper. If he was having trouble during the second week of rehearsals, shouldn't he have stopped then, and taken care of himself and let the producers deal with his absence early on? Mr. Sincerity this man ain't.

I think the Gawker was very well-written...

A very not-mercury-poisoned-looking Jeremy Piven, who quit his high-profile Broadway show Speed-the-Plow using the old too much sushi excuse, managed to drag himself out of bed at dawn to go on Good Morning America today. Feh.
The more he doth protest, the more it is too much. He'd be better off laying low—not going to the glitzy Golden Globes then flying back across the country to do GMA. If he disappeared for a while, in stoic sickly hermitage, he could then reemerge in a few months and everyone would call him brave. Now he just seems like someone who's been caught in a really bad lie and can't backpedal, so is just stuck digging that grave deeper and deeper. It's a bit sad, really.

It is a bit sad, really. I didn't watch the interview and I don't care to. For him, I don't think there's no turning back now. He's gonna stick with his story and hope people will forget, or just stop caring. Fans of his just hope he gets "better", and I'm sure producers just care that he gets back to shooting. All in all, this whole thing equals more press for him. Just from what's gone on so far, he doesn't seem like the type to admit he is wrong. I kinda feel bad for him, now. He can tell himself he was sick, and bored, or whatever, and I'm sure he can even make himself believe any of it. The bottom line is, he just couldn't deliver. And he's the one who's gonna live with that. It may bother him, it probably won't. Whatever, dude. You tried Broadway, failed, and ran out with your tail between your legs.
Just watched it. I would not call it a great performance at all actually. He was lying so badly it was almost like watching an imitation of somebody lying. I'm sure he did have high mercury levels. That part is probably true. But no, I do not believe that that is why he left the show. He left the show because he was bored with it and he paid off a doctor to write a statement using his high mercury levels as an excuse for him to get out.

Agreed...
I'm offended on behalf of my fellow pescatarians!
From the second week of rehearsal for the revival of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow, the Entourage star, 43, told Good Morning America, "I was losing my balance and my memory. The lights were too bright. I couldn't get enough oxygen."
After passing out in his home after work one day, he was admitted to the hospital for three days while doctors ran extensive tests, Piven says. Doctors discovered he had six times the levels of mercury found in a healthy person, which was causing his symptoms, and warned that he could have a heart attack if he overexerted himself.

He needs to shut up. No one cares anymore; we all pretty much can agree the mercury poisoning thing is suspicious to say the least. What an idiot.

you guys are all ****ing morons. He looks tired and run down even now in the video, he sounds very sincere and I believe that he pulled out because he had to, not because he wanted to.
you gossiping bitches piss me off.
@ bwaybud:
How much is he paying you? You've been here since '06, so you can't just be Piven fire-starting for himself. How much did he pay?

oh man good comeback gvendo, cant wait for the rest of you ****heads to chime in your little whitty opinions.
I'm just saying I would rather an actor pull out of a production then get hurt and keep pressing forward when they are sick. I believe that he is sick.
I also believe that the reason why people are calling his interview a "performance" is because in Entourage he does a wonderful job of allowing his natural characteristics to fire up the material.
To me the interview looks like he is trying to get his side of the story public while this woman contradicts him for good televisions sake.

Did anyone notice how Jeremy didn't answer Diane when she questioned him about partying? He was seen out every single night partying! It's all over Perez! There were even photos of him crashing Britney Spears' birthday party!
Also, this so called "doctor" that Jeremy was visiting has been sued multiple times! Not a reliable source if you ask me.

Apparently the National Fisheries Institute has disputed Piven's claims saying that the information he is saying is FALSE. Basically, someone with 6 times the amount of mercury would not be ill. Someone with 1,000 times the amount of mercury would be ill.

Witty is spelled w-i-t-t-y, bwaybud. But nice try.
Piven is full of sh*t and both Macy and Butz are leagues better than him in the role, so good riddance. So annoying.

I still don't get it.
Didn't the papers say that he was claiming he had mono for a while? I'm confused.
So, is he claiming that he thinks he had mono and it was really high mercury levels?
But if he didn't eat fish for five months, that shows he knew about his mercury "problems" five months ago...weird weird WEIRD.
I think if he was genuine, his coworkers would have acted more sympathetically instead of publicly stating that it was better without him. It probably says a LOT that they would feel this way, considering that Jeremy being in the show was one of the reasons it was selling so well.
I didn't see William H. Macy yet, but I did see Norbert and thought he was brilliant and better in the show than Jeremy was.
Does anyone really believe he "ate sushi twice a day for 20 years"?
Really?
Twice a day for 20 years?
Guys, I think the weird timeline is on purpose. Saying he knew 5 months ago achieves these goals:
- it makes him seem like a martyr for even starting the show in the first place. Broadway was his "dream", he claims he slept all day and conserved all his energy for the show. The fact that he had to drop out after 3 months is well, he's a martyr but not superman.
- however, because he's had time to deal with his illness and stopped eating fish 5 months ago, he should be well enough to go back to Entourage next month, 6 months after the initial diagnosis.

I dunno. I would eat sushi every day (or multiple times a day) if I could afford it.
