This is very, very sad news indeed. I was just talking to my Mother yesterday about Jerry Orbach and she recalled seeing him when he was pretty young on Broadway in "Promises, Promises" many moons ago.
As a tribute here's a favorite Bacharach/David song (popularized by Dionne Warwicke) from that show that Jerry sang in a duet with Jill O'Hara:
I'll never fall in love again
What do you get when you fall in love?
A guy with a pin to burst your bubble
That's what you get for all your trouble
I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again
What do you get when you kiss a guy?
You get enough germs to catch pneumonia
After you do, he'll never phone ya
I'll never fall in love again
Dontcha know that I'll never fall in love again?
Don't tell me what it's all about
'cause I've been there and I'm glad I'm out
Out of those chains, those chains that bind you
That is why I'm here to remind you
What do you get when you fall in love?
You only get lies and pain and sorrow
So far at least until tomorrow
I'll never fall in love a- gain
No, no, I'll never fall in love again
Ahh, out of those chains, those chains that bind you
That is why I'm here to remind you
What do you get when you fall in love?
You only get lies and pain and sorrow
So far at least until tomorrow
I'll never fall in love again
Dontcha know that I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again
We've lost an immense talent, may he rest in peace.
My jaw dropped this morning when I saw the front page of this site. I'm in complete shock. I thought he was doing so well! And that he was readying to start up the newest Law and Order series? Soooooo sad.
This is one of the first times I have ever cried at the news of a celebrities death. I am in mourning...
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Anyone know when the memorial service is?

I am so glad I got to hear him perform "Try to Remember" at Lincoln Center two months ago...that was one of the highlights of my theatre experiences. He was a true class act and a great talent. RIP El Gallo.
I am deeply saddened to hear Jerry Orbach has died. Reading these posts show the love and respect people had for him professionally and personally. It's too upsetting to realize and accept. Updated On: 12/29/04 at 11:40 AM
So sad...RIP Jerry Orbach...
You know, for someone who only first knew him as Briscoe or Dr. Hausmann (sp?), it was an amazing surprise to hear him sing. What a gorgeous, phenomenal voice he had. I'm so glad his singing is included in the Broadway DVD. The 42nd St. clip was wonderful, and the clip of him singing as Billy Flynn totally wiped the floor with Richard Gere (not like that would have been hard...). Did Briscoe ever sing in any Law and Order episode? That would have been too great.

Considering Ebb and Coleman as well, this was a year of old pro's dying. So sad

This is the first time I have ever cried at the death of an actor. Jerry was my favorite actor, and my dream in life was to work with him. I was devastated when he left L&O, but thrilled to hear of the spinoff. I also hoped one day we'd be on Broadway together! I feel so incredibly sad today. I am praying for his family and friends. He should still be with us. This seems so incredibly unfair. The only consolation seems that he will live forever through the beauty of film. Oh ... I feel sick writing this. Once again, prayers to all of those who loved him.

I can't believe this. I thought he was doing well...
RIP
Not a good morning/afternoon. I'm still shocked and kind of in disbelief. I thought he was doing well too. I wish the best to his family and may he rest in peace.

Rest in peace, Jerry Orbach. You shall be sorely missed.
Not only an extremely talented man, but also a man known for having a heart of gold. This is truly another tragedy to end 2004. Abrupt deaths like this one really hit hard. Jerry will always be remembered and appreciated by the theatre/television community.
So sad and unexpected...I was in a show with someone who worked with early in his career and he said that Orbach as kind, funny, and charming...so may he rest in peace...I'm gonna watch beauty and the beast in honor of him
What an incredible actor! He was a star of stage, screen and tv! I feel so fortunate to have seen him in the Original Broadway Casts of Chicago and 42nd Strret. Broadway has lost one of it's brightest lights.
Rest in Peace, and thank you for sharing your gift with all of us.
I absolutely loved Jerry Orbach! I saw him in 42nd Street on Broadway.....and I loved him in Law and Order!!
I am so sorry to hear of his untimely passing.
I have replied on Marquise's topic, and wanted to reply here as well. I just cannot say enough good things about Jerry Orbach...I felt as though I knew him, although I only knew him through his work.
He will be sorely missed.
Thank you Ga for starting this topic.
I think right now we just need to remember that at least he isn't in any more pain.
RIP

My mother just told me, and I had to come and see if it was actually true...oh, god. After I read the column here, I suddenly heard his voice in my head, singing, "Come on along and listen to the lullaby of Broadway" and I started to cry. Rest in peace, Jerry.
