Go NJ! Born and raised at the Shore. And go to college in Essex County. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, except NYC.

I live in Tennessee. It's f*cking hell here. I live in a small town and I could not be more miserable. I'll trade places with any of you :)
I love that this turned into a Jersey support thread.
The only things I can think of my area being famous for is Space Farms and the former Action Park. Fun readings in Weird New Jersey.
Action Park...oh, my...talk about an unsafe place!! Anyone else remember that death trap? They had this rather frightening looking water slide, where you actually went upside down....because that was a safe idea.
Yes, gas prices! I love that Jersey is one of only two states where you cannot pump your own gas....and it's cheaper than anwhere else around! (Even the turnpike prices are cheaper than what I pay!)
I LOVE New Jersey!
I'm guessing I might have grown up near Eris....Mercer County?!
Yes, Mercer County. Hamilton Square to be exact.
And I LOOOOOVE not having to get out of my car to pump my own gas. I've only pumped my own gas once and that was when I was driving a friend's car in Seattle.
I left the state for college (PA) but came back and don't want to leave. I MAY move closer to the city but it would take something really major, like a fabulous job, to get me to leave Mercer County.
Eris....I'M freaking from Ham. Sq! Steinert or West?
Steinert Class of 97
Me, too! But WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY earlier than you! I'm old, really old.
Small world!
Crap! If your folks are Steinert alums....I could even KNOW them! Bwahahaha.
The gas prices are SO expensive where I live in NJ.
Adamgreer-I never went up there as a child, but I heard about all the accidents. They did a section of it in the second edition of the Weird New Jersey book. Everyone talked about that same slide. Actually, I worked there one summer when it became Mountain Creek, but I hated it and it still seemed shady.
And apparently, across the street, there was Motor World. Which served alcohol and it was a Go-Kart Track. Now it's all condos.

I never knew they had places in America that pumps gas for you.
Where was I my whole life?
I know they do that in Japan in other foreign countries but I never heard about that in America.
Hahaha
I just learned somthing new.
Notre Dame High school in Mercer County
I forget the other state that forbids it. There are only two. Here in MA, if you go to a station that offers pump your own you actually pay EXTRA to have them do it for you. (unless you are handicapped) But many of the less expensive places around me still pump it for you....thank goodness.
alightinthedark: what year? I had many a boyfriend from ND!(Galpals as well!)
Marianne2- I was never actually allowed to go there when I was growing up. My parents insisted it wasn't safe and they were right (obviously). I, sadly, never got to ride that infamous loop-de-loop water slide. I do remember the go-kart place across the street, where apparently the staff was almost always intoxicated (along with the guests!) How the place was allowed to stay open as long as it did is beyond me.
The wikipedia article about it is infinitely entertaining.
I didn't know other states didn't have full service gas stations until I was about 13 and there was a trivia question on Z100 about it. the other state is Oregon, by the way.
and oh Action Park. my sister and I like to reminisce about when our father and uncle took us and two of our cousins there.

OMG Action Park. We were talking about that place at work yesterday LOL And yes, it does suck when I travel out of state because I really don't know how to pump my own gas.... add that to the list of good things about NJ! LOL
Dramamama611, I graduated in 2007.
I am old. Old enough to be your mother.
OY.
How is Notre Dames theater program? When I was in HS is was great.
Where my Grandma used to live there was ONE place where they would pump your gas. She did not know how to do it & when my grandpa died that was a problem. She drove all the way across town to get her gas pumped for her. She couldn't pay her bills but she could get that expensive gas though.
The theater program is still very strong. It's very known in the area and well praised. Very well done and always impressive. While I was there they did: Grease, Kiss Me Kate, West Side Story and Les Mis. All were very well done.
Crap! If your folks are Steinert alums....I could even KNOW them! Bwahahaha.
Haha...nope. Both my parents are from Pennsylvania. They moved here when my dad was offered a job with the NJ State Commission of Investigation before I was born.
I forget the other state that forbids it
I believe it's Oregon.
Dramammamma, was Mr Hutton there when you were?
Born and raised outside DC, go to school in VT, but for the past three summers I've been interning in NYC and living in Springfield with my grandparents. That's Essex County, right? We're right outside Millburn/Shorthills.
My grandpa taught music in Sussex and Union County forever and ever. Mr. Geist anyone, anyone, no one? okay. My mom went to Dayton HS and my dad went to Columbia HS.
Hudson County woot woot! anyone else? i'm in Weehawken.
i secretly wish that slide was still in Mountain Creek. i do like the Tarzan swing they have in there now. oh and the 40 foot cliff!
My younger brother moved to Weehawken
