Wynbish, I agree. She never really found her groove in pop music. She definitely has raw talent, and I had forgotten how beautiful she was when she came onto the scene!!

Now that her father has come out as gay, he should start pimping her out for musicals. Imagine all the chorus boys he could sniff.

This is pretty good for that age! I'm not sure about the choreography though LOL

I remember when she started her career, she was sold (at least here in Brazil) as a "christian" version of Britney e Christina. Then, all of a sudden, she came back with her second album with totally different sound, image and singing style...

I'm going lay the over-singing thing on the music director. (S)he should have guided her to a more restrained place. Just because you have the note doesn't mean the song wants it. Never sing louder than beautiful!.

Now this question of oversinging, I don't know?? I mean was she really oversinging? She stuck pretty close to the original except for the "for you" and is it really that gratuitous? The song is about Cassie's desperation to be in this show and to work, Jessica builds and brings the song to a climax with that note, but hey what do I know lol

I would've never guessed she was so immensely talented! It's really a shame that her talents remain hidden behind the music that she does nowadays. She should be doing musicals!

Her CD's are actually really good, I love her country CD "Do You Know?" and her voice sounds great in it. She also co-wrote most of the songs.
Her previous "In This Skin", "Irresistible" are very average pop albums but they have a few hidden gems in them.

I remember there was an episode of Newlyweds where she was coming back from the studio and she said something like "they said I was singing the song too gospel-y, like people can't sing a long."

So clearly at a certain point she was being coerced to try to fit in with the pop music scene of that period.

She should do more theatre. But why are we even criticising a person who is very young and possibly in her first show. How would you like it for people to dig up what you did in college and criticise it.

I always wondered if people know how offensive it is saying "for a high school student...".

This implies that most high school students haven't had the time to develop serious skills and nothing can be farther from the truth.

The fact that your high school didn't have major talent doesn't mean that doing a crappy job is good enough because of someone's age.

The good thing about this clip is that it led me to a link where I finally saw the Chorus Line documentary Every Little Step in its entirety. So yay for Jessica Simpson in that sense. :-p
