I was thinking the other day, what 'celebrity' could do this role. Jessica Simpson i think could do it, though I dont know what her voice-range is.
For what I know of her voice now,
she could do ELPHABA, but it would be funny
seeing her as GLINDA!

Ummm...no.
I wouldn't mind hearing her sing "Defying Gravity"..but never acting the role.
She SHOULD however consider playing Amber in the "Hairspray" movie.

No, no Broadway for Jessica. A movie musical would be alright, but I don't think Penny is right for her.
EDIT: sorry, misread Princeton's post... Amber might work

Posted: 3/17/05 at 11:40am...As long as Ashlee Simpson is never considered for any role in anything, I'll actually live with Jessica briefly doing something. Though I will shout STUNT CASTING from the rooftops.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 11:53amI think Jessica is one of the most talented singers, she would be great in "wicked".But the production could never afford her.
#14re: Jessica Simpson as GLINDA in Wicked?
Posted: 3/17/05 at 11:54amI would see her more as Elphaba tho.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 11:55amsomeone explain this to me... first off, can she act?? cuz she just seems so "stupid" although, I do think it is scripted on Newleyweds. I dont know I just ouldn't see her being able to carry either role. It just doesn't seem like her voice is strong enough. PLUS can she belt?!

Posted: 3/17/05 at 11:59amkimsus...get her cds....she can belt. i saw her in SNL and she was an ok actress...but those were funny skits...so lets wait for her movie to come out and then we'll see if she can act.By the way...she was really good in a short movie she did for VH1 big in 04.

Let's say that in a year or so, the producers of the 'Spray get desperate and need to stunt-cast. How about...
Amber: Jessica Simpson
Link: Nick Lachey
Tracy: Kelly Osbourne
Penny: Ashlee (excuse me I just had a hiccup w/ some vomit) Simpson
Seaweed: Ryan Cabrera in black-face
Think of the backstage theatrics! The three different MTV reality show camera crews! The pill-popping! The facial contortions and texas hoe-downs! Now *THAT* I would want to see. It would be the most god-forsaken thing you'd ever see---but admit it, you'd check it out.
haha
Now in all reality though, I would absolutely LOVE LOVE to see Diana DeGarmo as Tracy. DeGarmo was the runner-up to Fantasia in last season's American Idol. Forget Osbourne---DeGarmo has the body, the cute face, bubbly Tracey personality, and a KILLER voice. That girl, I'm sure of it, would be the best-sung Tracey yet.

What's wrong with BROADWAY celebrities on Broadway?? I for one am pretty fed up with 2nd rate pop-stars and declining sit-com actors taking roles away from people who have given their lives perfecting their theatrical craft!
Sorry...had a "Christina Applegate/Charlotte D'Amboise soap-box" moment there. :)

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately Broadway has become too commercial and too expensive to produce and our Broadway celebrities that we love so much just don't have the box office draw with the "uninformed" audience that they are trying to attract in order to finance the show.
Wicked and Lion King are the exception but those shows had a "machine" and fanbase already built in with Lion King being one of Disney's biggest movies ever and Wicked being a best selling novel not to mention the fact that it's source material is the Wizard of Oz which is the most beloved story from everyone's childhood. They couldn't help score as long as long as they were halfway decent and somewhat of a spectacle.
