And a year is a long time to stay with a show.

That's the pretty standard contract these days, isn't it?

This is only the second show she's been in that's run long enough for that to be an issue...

There's a big difference in the source material for Beautiful and Waitress...Carole king sold 25 million copies of Tapestry worldwide...She has a huge fan base...Waitress is based off a film that grossed a little north of 20 million almost a decade ago...

Ok I know Sara b is not as big as Carole but she has a huge fan base as well and is current. Sara is more the key than Waitress the movie. Imo
And as of now, this is one of the few musicals written by a famous singer/songwriter that's doing good business. Most of the time when a famous singer/songwriter writes a Broadway musical, they usually fail commercially.

Hold on with your sweeping generalizations. Sara B happens to be at the height of her pop star fame right now. Who else has written a musical at the height of their career?

Personally, I would see Waitress again without Jessie Mueller because I'm a HUGE Sara bareilles fan. However - I saw Beautiful 3 times, and have not returned since jessie mueller left. She was the draw for me for Beautiful but SB music was the draw for me for waitress. I can't wait to see what Jessie does next!

You should try and catch Stephanie Torns..she is amazing and does a great job with the role.

Got to catch this last night. Great show... great music. Christopher Fitzgerald's "You're Never Getting Rid of Me" CRUSHED.... the crowd loved it... got a massive reaction.
Jessie Mueller has a great voice, glad I got to catch her before she left the show. She also was coughing offstage, but overall performed up to standards that I hear she normally does.
Onstage mishap: One of the measuring glasses fell off a table during the scene change before the 'wedding' scene, production had to be stopped and the crowd was laughing weirdly while they were cleaning up, I think it was because Christopher Fitzgerald was stone faced and would not move while it was happening, whereas the rest of the actors were just looking around making sure everything was okay.
Overall, I would recommend. Fun show!

Looks like Sara might be taking over:

My friend in NYC posted that article on fb last night and I thought it was possibly a hoax since Sarah mentioned a few days ago that she wouldn't be doing it anytime soon and wanted to focus on her album...

If true, I'd go see it again, if only to get the author's perspective on the character
Anyone at Jessie's last show (which will be ending in a few minutes) today? Anything special happen?

Just left. It was such a wonderful performance with clearly a lot of die hard fans in attendance. Lots of but applause and a standing ovation after She Used to Be Mine.
After curtain call Jessie Nelson and Sara Bareilles came out and presented Jessie with two giant beautiful bouquets. Jessie Nelson gave a moving speech about how important Jessie Mueller was to the show and what a pro and great person she is and how easy it was to build a show around her. All lovely and gracious and quite emotional.
Perhaps the best part though was when Jessie Mueller took the mic and pulled her hairdresser and dresser out on stage. She talked about how important they were to her not only for the show but also on an emotional and personal level. It was very sweet and selfless. Jessie once again showed how not self-aggrandizing she is. The whole thing was great.
Thanks! Glad she got a nice send-off... but yeah, can't see her making a big deal about it. Such a class act.
Can't wait to see Sara in it!

Thanks so much for the video links. Much appreciated.
Jessie,
As I sat in the balcony of the Brooks Atkinson with the man I swore I'd marry, I saw so much of myself in Jenna, and her arc became ever more poignant as my relationship with that man came to an end. In this performance, you demonstrated that though life changes you, and that "it's not what you asked for," there is never a wrong time to "start fresh." And that like Jenna, someday I too might find my peace.
She may be Sara Bareilles, but she still has enormous shoes to fill. Thanks for being there.

Does she really need to fill Jessie's shoes or shouldn't she just create her own "Jenna." Obviously, Jessie has had loads of musical theater experience, including lead roles and a Tony award. Sara is a singer/musician with limited acting experience and this will be her first Broadway role. Can't she just bring her own energy and love to the part without encouraging a comparison by two completely different performers?
Jenna is a great role...and Jenna is the one who gives us the great message, no matter if it's performed by Jessie, or Sara ...or Stephanie who has performed when Jessie was out and should be on this week before Sara arrives. They all bring their own special talents to the role and given the chance, the audiences will totally respond to whoever is up there...period.
I was there and so thankful to have been. I've seen it twice before but she really gave it her all last night. In everything I've seen Jessie do, she makes you feel every emotion meant to be felt. You could tell at the top of the show she was emptional but she gave the most beautiful performance I've seen. She sounded incredible but her acting was even more incredible. Itll be hard for anyone to follow but I'm eager to see what Sara brings, as she wrote the material and feels something different towards it. I was only planning on seeing Jessie's last but since I'm visiting family on Long Island this week, I bought a ticket to Sara's first. Interested to see the difference. Also, during the speech last night, Sara was visibly crying and it was so beautiful to see her connection to Jessie.
Her voice was in ruins last night, I hope she takes a long and well deserved rest
Um...I never meant to imply that Sara Bareilles should try to BE Jessie...that was merely an afterthought on my little anecdote of what the latter meant to me in the role...
