Poor guy-- he deserves a medical leave. I can't believe they're so worried about money they will sacrifice an actors health. I wonder if they can incorporate the cane into the show sometime. Also I don't know if there are elaborate costumes, but wouldn't the cane ruin some costumes (and quick changes)??"
Do you really think Parsons’ team of agents, managers, and attorneys would let anyone “make him” come back if they didn’t think he was ready and willing??

According to some Twitter posts, he didn't appear in the matinee today.

Exactly. If Jim Parsons didn't feel ready to come back, he wouldn't be back. Not sure why anyone would jump to the conclusion that the "people in charge" are sacrificing his health for money.
If JCM could do Hedwig in a boot, Jim Parsons can do this in a boot
The entire play takes place during the course of a birthday party. No one has any costume changes nor are there any scene/set changes.
Fascinating, the number of posters who haven't seen his X-rays, spoken with his doctors, or even know what the full, nuanced medical diagnosis may be, judging this actor for his series of difficult, real-time decisions; he may very well be in pain, and incapacitated.
It happened on Saturday. This is Wednesday.
He doesn't owe anybody a damned thing other than a performance, when and if he's well enough to give it. .

Vonmar, Can you confirm this? It will make me feel so much better after having my flight cancelled and missing the performance. Thanks.
Just did a search and Parsons was indeed out for the matinee today.

Mitchell was brilliant in his booted performance which I saw three times. He also had revised staging, was able to rework the book of the show to include dialogue about why he was in a boot, and spent most of the performance in a chair with his leg elevated. Less so as time went on, but his first performance back had very little movement. Boys in the Band has a two story set that Parsons has to navigate. I’m sure they’ll revise the blocking, but that will take time. Besides which, you have no idea the level of either of their injuries. This idea that some broke their foot and owes it to everyone not to miss a show...it’s a bit inhumane.

Umm, aside from the posts above mentioning him being back tonight, and them posting signs saying he would be performing the show in a boot with a cane?

For what it's worth, it didn't seem that Jim was in any pain at all throughout the performance and the boot and cane didn't seem to inhibit his (very good) performance at all. At one point he has to make his way up a set up stairs, and he definitely took his time, but otherwise he seemed okay. In fact, he used the cane for emphasis on certain things sometimes and it seemed to fit the character fairly well. Leave it be for me to know what's actually going on, if he was in pain or not, or what his medical diagnosis is - but from the perspective of an audience member, he seemed more than capable of performing in this condition. I can only assume that he, his team, and his doctors said it was okay and I do give him great respect for doing his best to ensure that the show must go on.
I assume all of the people freaking out about Parsons returning so quickly in a boot also freaked out about Andy Karl returning to Groundhog Day quickly in a leg brace? If an actor has been cleared by their doctor and feels up to doing the performance, by all means let them! It is their job and of they think they can do it without straining themselves then they should- and if they can't make it, that's what an understudy or standby is for.
There were signs in the lobby last night stating that Parsons would be performing with a cane and a leg boot that even added "he is not in pain." As we were seated, our usher enthusiastically said, "He's back and he's not in pain!" So I guess that's the official message. I thought he was an excellent Michael, the best of the four I've seen onstage. I don't remember if the character always had a line saying he came from the South, but Parsons turned on his southern accent quite effectively. As mentioned above, he also used his cane for dramatic emphasis, especially when he tapped on the floor to get the attention of the cowboy. I was less impressed with Matt Bomer's performance (some of his line readings were quite clunky), and I was surprised how much Zachary Quinto channeled Leonard Frey's vivid film performance. He even cackled just like Frey at one point. The audience was an interesting mixture of elder gays (including me), young gays, straight couples, and lots of young women. The audience seemed to love the show and even gave exit applause to several of the performers as they left Michael's apartment.
Michael has always been southern. Is his long monologue while dressing still in the play? It was cut from the film, and with these edits, I've guessed that it was omitted.
Auggie27, in this production Michael has a long monologue while he's dressing.

Curious, since they announced Quinto's casting of Harold. (Since my trip was cancelled I will not be able to see this). Does Quinto portray Harold with a wig and/or make up since the character describes himself as "ugly and potmarked"?

I don't get your " joke". In the movie, Leonard Frey either wears a wig or has his hair styled in tight curls and has makeup for acne scars. There are several lines addressing Harold's look. Again, curious what Quinto's look is.

I'm very bad at figuring out when men are wearing wigs on stage, but I think this was a subtle wig? Not completely sure. The pock-markings seem to be put on with makeup but I didn't really notice them from the 3rd row. I was orch right and he was mostly seated facing the other way from my seat, though. When his dialogue mentioned the face markings I was actually a little confused because I hadn't noticed them. From some of the stage door photos it looks like he leaves them on after the matinees?
I'll try to link to some instagram posts that you can flip through.
