Every one is too thin skinned and needs to lighten up

I have heard every Irish joke there is and could care less. Life is too short to get your panties in a wad when someone make a joke.

Joan's jokes come from a place of cruelty and viciousness. She actually can not tolerate women who do not mutilate and starve themselves finding any measure of success in the media. And of course she's the first to say "It's just a joke" but say one critical thing about her and she becomes enraged and defensive. Whatever it is they've replaced her actual skin with is remarkably thin.

Enraged and defensive? If you insult her, she'll insult you back, but that is normal comedian behavior, not because she's wounded. I can't think of any example of her acting in the way you describe. On her talk show, when a guest is hesitating saying something mean about her, she helps them make the joke worse. She seems to love it.

Yup. I'm not talking about a comic roasting her or a heckler getting the smack down from her. I'm talking about anybody saying they think the way she eviscerates other women is hateful and she just goes BANANAS. She can not face the truth of what it is that she does. Clearly, the woman hates herself. And everybody else.

I don't think there's any art to what she does. I think she is a harpy. I think she is mean-spirited and quite cruel. I think the idea of letting her off the hook "because she is so critical of herself" is simply not based on reality. She hasn't had her 600 surgical procedures because she thinks each one makes her WORSE. She's an anorexic plastic surgery addict who thinks very highly of herself and who over the years has criticized women who don't starve and mutilate themselves like she does. She resents and attacks them for it. You know, deep down she thinks of herself as a serious actress of the stage so you KNOW that her attacking the size of Frank Langella's leading lady is just more of her pettiness and cruelty. How can a FAT woman be up there when I don't eat and have myself surgically restructured so regularly?

You know, her original stand up career, which was really just Phyllis Diller's stuff taken to a different level, was funny. And she lucked into a renaissance in the '80s with her Liz Taylor jokes. The thing about it that made that work was that until she started in with that, polite society had not said those things out loud about Liz Taylor. So it had an edge. She made a ton of money and who was she hurting? ONLY one person!

But then she just continued and built the whole second stage of her career on being cruel about people. Don't you remember how proud she was telling the story about how Willie Nelson's daughter said it hurt her and her father's feelings when Joan said he should wear a Shell No-Pest Strip around his neck and Joan crowed, "I took that joke right outta the act." Oh, wow, Joan, what an humanitarian.

She crossed the line when she decided to take what was a drag queen tradition at gay bars (trashing people on the big awards shows) and went public with it. And of course, was financially rewarded for it.

The fact is, she told the real truth about herself when she titled that recent book, "I Hate Everyone, Starting With Me." She puts out so much negativity into the world and just doesn't understand why it always ends up coming back to her. She's awful.

The people who DO call her out get attacked worse by her. Did this NOT just happen with Jennifer Lawrence?

I am not offended.

I am critical of her as a human being. And I think she is the first to let herself off the hook.

Was it not Jennifer Lawrence who said how cruel Rivers was and all Rivers could say was how LUCKY Jennifer Lawrence is to have her career and she should be grateful for that?

Joan knows her cruelty has no ethical moral center but she still can't shut her stupid trap when she's called on it.

Spare me the instruction, Jeff. I've logged more hours at comedy shows than you could possibly imagine.

You notice Joan Rivers couldn't just say, "Oh well, the show's not to her taste." Instead it's another attack and OF COURSE it's a non-sensical charge of "hypocrisy." Of COURSE. Rivers wouldn't go on the attack if she didn't know that the criticism is right on the money. And typically, the charge is what she herself is guilty of.

She couldn't just say, "Oh well, some people didn't like my Adele jokes." It had to be that she is trying to fight diabetes. Joan Rivers has merde where her soul should be and doesn't even have the courage of the convictions of her hacky act. Hacky and LITERALLY hacked.
