What a great choice. I love watching him on stage!

O wow, I guess I'll have to revisit Waitress.

I am so excited. I saw him in the audience last week and couldn't resist going over to shake his hand, telling him I had seen him in so many things over the years and I hope he enjoyed Waitress.. Little did I know...
At age 87, this could very well be the last time this living legend appears on a Broadway stage. I have yet to see Waitress but this will certainly get me to finally buy a ticket.

I have tickets for tomorrow, but looks like I'll be there again soon.
I may now go to see it.
It's hard to believe, but I first saw John Cullum live on stage over a half-century ago! I have been a fan ever since and have seen him many, many times. And never have I seen him give a bad performance; I don't think he has one in him.
I've never seen him onstage. But, I do remember him in a lead role in the tv movie "The Day After", about a nuclear confrontation between the U.S. and Russia.

1776?
Oy. I'm really conflicted about this. I've never gotten to see him onstage either, and I would love to. And he's perfect for this role. But I'm not sure if it's worth it for another trip to Waitress. I have nothing against the show, but I've already seen it twice (once with the OBC and once with Bareilles), and I had no intention of revisiting it. Do we know of any other cast changes coming up? That would help me make up my mind.

I didn't really love the show with the OBC but since seeing it twice with Betsy I can say she changes the show so so much for the better. In terms of replacements, Maia Nkenge Wilson (Book of Mormon, Color Purple) is now playing Becky. I suspect Caitlin's contract is up soon unless she extended.
If you haven’t seen Betsy, go see it! She’s great as Jenna. They recently got a new Becky who was the screamer(is that the term or is belter better?) in Book of Mormon if she’s any interest to you.
Those who have been following the Carousel threads may remember that I don't have any particular love for Betsy Wolfe. I don't really dislike her, but I have no real urge to see her in more roles than I already have. But I suppose if I'm going for Cullum, Betsy wouldn't be a detriment.

Do you hate/dislike/feel indifferent about every young actress working on Broadway right now?
Honestly I'm not a huge Betsy fan, I really prefer other takes on Cathy in L5Y...However, her in Waitress is worth the admission. She is FANTASTIC. She can belt, kill it with the acting and can be super funny with her co-stars. She and Drew also have really nice chemistry. See it!!

To be honest, there are quite a few, yes. I didn't realize how frequently I've been saying stuff like that recently until you pointed it out, but you're right. Sorry if it's getting tiresome, but unfortunately I do feel that many of today's young musical theatre actors are very unexciting (including many of the young men, but there hasn't been as much discussion about leading male roles recently).
Good. If John Cullum is up to doing Waitress he can come back in a much-needed Urinetown revival. Sorry to hijack, it had to be said.
