I was surprised she was only on as a talking head, and I wondered if they had something else planned for her that wound up getting cut. I also find her so compelling as a personality and could listen to her talk all day."
Some publicity shots show her in what looks like a cooking segment (as well as more of Richard Kind, in some sort of science segment). I imagine stuff got cut!
The original songs are extremely enjoyable! It's a fun soundtrack. I think "Grandma's Boyfriend Paul" is the best of the bunch."
I actually kind of like that Richard Kind's only appearance was in Girl Talk, where he and the girls called each other Girl Talk.
Oh, me too. It's a great, ridiculous bit.
This is everything. That kid is gonna go places and nervous David Byrne is my favorite kind of David Byrne
I thought it was incredible. I love David Byrne, but I thought that bit was the weakest part of the show. Everything else landed for me. De Shields was exceptional.

He already is. His name is Jacob Michael Laval and he made his Broadway debut in the recent revival of THE ROSE TATTOO and will be in the limited HBO series THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA that premieres in March 2020.
This special is such a wacko delight. I especially loved Grandma’s Boyfriend Paul and White Lady Crying. And Sasha’s Dad Does Drag. So many little New York jokes as well. Honestly they should make a full 10 episode series, because it was just so good, girl talk.

For those curious ones, Alex Bello is not Marlon Jackson’s son. It was just a sight gag for the special (the drawing of Joe and Katherine Jackson). Also, he was in the recent revival of THE ROSE TATTOO (with Sack Lunch Bunch’s Jacob Laval) and will be in the upcoming revival of CAROLINE, OR CHANGE.
Jonah Mussolino, who was John’s son in The Algebra Song and narrated Sascha’s Dad Does Drag [And the Act Needs Work], is also going to be Noah in the Caroline revival!
