Sounds like it!

God I hope not. Or else I'll have to see the show.
Will he have to shave his head too?
Well, I'm glad Christian Borle will be escaping soon.
??????
dammit I didn't want to have a reason to see this show.......

After seeing the very likable Stamos give one of the worst performances I have EVER seen on a musical stage in the revival of Bye Bye Birdie several years ago -- it was so bad that I actually felt sorry for him because he does really seem like a nice guy -- I don't know why anyone would get excited about the possibility of seeing him in a show that by all accounts is atrociously bad, at least per the majority of critics and participants in this board.
I wonder if he was the intended replacement for "Great Comet" for the Fall? The said a 'television actor'....

In his defense, he was terrific in The Best Man a few years later.

As someone who follows him on Twitter, he quotes that and other Willy Wonka quotes aaaaaall the time.
So it could just be that, or it could be a dream role since he clearly loves the movie and he's willing to do it.
I don't know how this ever happened because I tend not to like to see replacements but somehow or other I saw Mr. Stamos in Nine and Cabaret and I couldn't believe it but I liked him very much in both shows!
He was an interesting Corny Collins in Hairspray. Not sure if it was a good or bad interesting tho..lol

My thoughts exactly!
Loved Stamos in The Best Man, and would love to see him again in something else, but I've deliberately skipped Charlie

Is there a chance this is an announcement of him doing a touring production?

If that's the case, I don't like it. Stamos can be OK in the right role but he's not a Willy Wonka. And in that flawed show, it's barely passable when someone like Borle is elevating the entire operation
I'm currently in a production of CATCF (the play), and while I know they're not completely similar, neither stand out in any good way. John should use his talents elsewhere

Which didn't have any singing and dancing, the latter of which was mind-bogglingly bad.

CATCF???

Does Wonka have to dance though? Genuinely asking, as I haven't seen the show. I've never seen him live in a singing role, but I've heard bootleg audios of him in about 6 different musicals, and he's always sounded good to me. He's not pavarotti, but singing isn't a challenge for him.

Charlie. And. The. Chocolate. Factory. What can I say, typing out 29 words is exhausting
I think his agent should talk him out of it.

John Stamos as Willy Wonka with Weird Al playing ALL OF the Oompa Loompas sounds like a actual nightmare I'd have.

Nightmare? Sounds like a wet dream. I'd love to be invited to Stamos' chocolate factory.

This sounds like such a fun cast. I wish this was in NYC instead of that other thing.
I think I'd rather see this than the current Broadway version, honestly
