Just wondering, does anyone know what Jonathan Groff has been up to lately? Or, why he hasn't been on Broadway in so long?!

I just caught his mini cameo in ROA "Baby Wolverine" and it reminded me I've been wondering about him for quite some time. I know he's doing Shakespeare in the Park again this summer - but why no Broadway return??

And... more importantly, does his hair look lighter in that vid or is it just me?

He just finished an off-Broadway run of The Singing Forest at The Public and is doing their production of The Bacchae in Central Park. He also filmed Ang Lee's Woodstock film and did another Lucas play earlier last season. So while he has been away from Broadway, he's been on the NYC boards quite often.

Yup....he's gearing up for another park run. Can't wait. Love classical theater.

I want him in another major musical ASAP. He has one of the most crisp, clear voices I have ever heard. He is a joy to listen to.

Yeah, he's going to be in Taking Woodstock (which Dan Fogler is also in. super excited), which I think comes out in August. That's part of the reason why he didn't go with Hair to Broadway.

He's actually made some pretty smart career choices thus far. While he certainly would have gotten a good run out of hair, he's been able to work on several diversely different projects that Hair, which he already got an acclaimed run out of, would have prevented him from doing.

It can be a wig, it can be his own, but that is BAD HAIR!

He must have things for roles with outrageous wigs!

I also agree his Broadway return is long overdue, and am just dying to see him invent a new role again in a musical. re: Jonathan Groff? Le sigh.

Thanks for posting the link, blaxx, but I have to disagree, I love Jon's hair! I used to have a 'do like that myself, it was the '60s! I can't wait to see Ang Lee's new movie, "Taking Woodstock," it looks like a blast, and Jon Groff in "The Bacchae" later this summer, what a talented young actor.

Yeah, heaven forbid he do some great other theatre around the city besides Broadway! I mean, clearly it only counts if he is on Broadway.

I saw him in Prayer for My Enemy at Playwrights. I was actually quite impressed with him.

I can't really imagine him as Dionysus, but I've been really impressed with his work lately, and think he's turned out to be a fine actor, so I'm looking forward to seeing him in The Bacchae.

I suspect the Hair revival will run for a while - has he expressed interest in returning to the production at some point in time if it is still around?

Actually, he was done with filming way before Hair was back in production for b'way. One speculation was that he turned it down because they were only offering the leads "scale".

And at this point in his career, I'd be suprised if he's looking to do anything other than originate roles.

He is the b'way communities sweetheart....he's not going anywhere...unless he chooses tv/film over b'way.

I have heard that he wants to do new things - not specifically originate roles, but not go backwards. Add different projects to his resume.

And that wig is AWFUL

Maybe it's Groff. Maybe he just looks horrid in long hair....everyone pretty much detested his in Hair in the park as well.

Although I don't love the one in the movie, I don't think it's that bad.
