I remember (not very well) seeing a staged reading of a show at the Duplex, maybe 5 or 6 years ago about a young boy and some ties to Judy Garland. I really don't remember much other than that. Is this the same show?
Here's the banner-video to this play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGbvYa3ow9s
Here's the writer and star, Peter Mac... performing as Judy Garland:

Personally... I think he is awful. Too off-target campy for my taste.
They could put two guys fu**ing on a marquee and it wouldn't be as gay as that...

this show was a one man show that played the duplex then went on to run for two years ar Roses Turn.

I am making the asumption that Lutheran church isn't a part of the Missouri Synod.
Still, than you for sharing. Looks fun. Good luck to all involved.

Though it is the same Actor who plays Judy the clips you are seeing are from a comedy called Judy & Bea.
This is a play about a real person who finds comfort in the wit and wisdom of Judy Garland. Unlike reall ife where he would listen to her records for comfort to find his quiet space amongst homophobia and domestic abuse. Judy comes to life and counsels the kid. It is the action of her coming to life that saves this kid's.
How can this be a one man show if there are two people "starring" and five people "featured".
I am also amazed that the producers were able to obtain the rights to use the "ruby slippers" image when the producers of Wicked couldn't even do it!
It is not a one man show in its current form ... 8 years ago it started as a one man show.
Now it is a wonderful show with 6 actors.
I recommend it... i saw it in its off-off-broadway run last june and it was very moving and a great piece with a lot of heart.

This is NOT a one person show. It is a seven charcter show. With six actors.
The image of the ruby slippers is a cartoon drawing and not a picture from the movie. The ruby slippers specific to Dorothy are not being used contextually in the piece to move the story forward.
Further where Wicked is Anti Wizard of Oz this play is pro Judy. She is this kid's Guardian Angel.
The Ruby Slippers area copyrighted image that someone is using to sell something. If the rights were not obtained the producers are breaking the law. Period. It does not matter if they appear in the show or move the plot forward. That is obviously an image from the MGM movie "The Wizard of OZ", there is not mistaking that image for anything else.

well someone on here is definitely a screaming something.
Is this the same show as that play that had the kid from QUEER AS FOLK in it a few seasons ago? i think Judy was that character's guardian angel as well.
After the failure of the Adrienne Barbeau (sp?) Judy tribute show, this is a really brave venture. That one was even on Christopher Street, i think.

Where were you when a friend of mine posted ONCE about her show at the MITF and she was almost run over the coals for advertising on this board?
This is about the tenth time I've read about this show on this board, and I find it a bit obnoxious. That doesn't mean you have to as well.
i apologize, i shouldn't have been so dismissive. It was just a good set-up, that's all.

I don't think an apology appears on this board anywhere!
That makes you, in my opinion, awesome.
de nada. i used to post here a lot more, but stopped coming when the daily incivility got to be too much. Lately i decided "why should misery drive off company" and instead am trying to be more sensitive in posting myself, AND less sensitive when others post to me. i'm not very good at it, but the only way to get better is to keep trying.
Went to see a cabaret show tonight at Don'T Tell Mama and walked by this theater. At 6:30 the marquee for this show was intact as shown in the pictures in the orginal post...at 8:30 the marquee was changed..the "ruby" slippers are now GREEN! (NOT kidding).
Weird! Sueleen has power!
You go girl....
