That one is kind of funny, it is just ridiculous that it comes from Perez Hilton.
Xanadu quotes Perez Hilton on the marquee?
I don't know about "Find Your Xanadu," never seen that one. The Perez quote I am talking about was like the very first marquee hung for Xanadu, way before there were any press reviews to be quoted from, and it said something like-
Do you love it? Or do you LOVE IT?!?!?!?!?! -Perez Hilton
Seriously written like that- what with the all caps and multiple quotation marks, like some fifth grader (no offense to the fifth graders here), and it was hung up there as a marquee for *weeks,* as if Perez Hilton were some legit media type or reviewer type person, and not just a plain ol' paid media whore.
They had the nerve to put that up?
It used to hang where the NY Times "heaven on Wheels" pull-quote now hangs, I believe- which reminds me, I think "Heaven on..." is totally underused, what with A Chorus Line being "Heaven on Broadway," Xanadu being "Heaven on Wheels," all shows should be "Heaven on..." something.
I'm surprised the revival hasn't used this slogan yet.

Okay, that's just dumb.

Personally, I do think ACL IS the Best Musical. Ever...maybe not this production, but for the most part, it is.
I think so, as well [at least one of them] but when I saw that, I thought it was a joke.
Book now for disappointment!

Broadway shows do not have the budget to spend like major studio movies and TV shows. Sometimes, it's not about having the prettiest or most tasteful ad, but doing something that gets the show noticed. The PerezHilton.com undersling has been down for weeks, but here we are, still talking about it. It therefore seems like it was a piece of advertising that did its job.
Usually, when I see "WINNER: BEST MUSICAL" or "winner of ___ Tony's", it is far more appealing than something like: "The best musical. Ever." I really like Phantom's and Rent's in Times Square.

Especially because it prompted him to post a picture of the marquee on his blog which is seen and read carefully by millions DAILY.
Not seeing how this was a dumb move.. seemed pretty smart to me

I didn't know that about the Perez quote. Since when does he have enough pull to get a Broadway marquee? sheesh.
I never really understood the "for heaven's sake, you must see it" for Company. I liked the quote, but I felt like it didn't tell you anything about the show - it's so vague

True, true- how does it go- as long as they spell your name right then there is no such thing as bad publicity? And I guess it was better than a marquee saying "Remember that awful movie that led to the creation of the Razzie Awards? Now it's on stage!!!!!" or something. But you would think they'd be able to get a quote from someone a little less obviously paid to be positive than Perez- if I walk by and look at your marquee and my first thought is 'ugh- media whore!', yes I'll remember you got a quote from OMG Perez!!!, but is that really better than having no quote hanging there at all?
Speaking of his site, though, I tried to find a pic of the marquee there and *failed*- did he pull it once the powers that be replaced his advertisement with a pull-quote from the NYTimes?

I like when shows when Drama Desks more than Tony's just because it's a harder field, what with the off-bway shows also nominated. I don't know why, but Tony awards don't seem so great to me, maybe it's the telecast...
Les Misérables started out in the late 80's with the slogan...
"The Musical Sensation"
It later morphed to...
"The World's Most Popular Musical"
Those weren't as bad as...
"You'll Miz Her When She's Gone"
Or...
"Let's Meet Under the Mizeltoe" at X-mas time.

Oh God! Les Mis actually used those last two? I love this production's slogan: "She's Back!"
That is so funny!
And I think "The Best Musical. Ever." is absolutely hilarious! I'd go see something that used that slogan.
"The hardest part about love is taking the first step."
I HATE THAT! It is completely ridiculous. Oh, Disney. Oh, The Little Mermaid.

"The Producers gets one more Tony!" not only that, but the fact that they actually got Tony Danza? *shudders*
I like Avenue Q's "Did we mention that we won the Tony?". It's meant to be funny and it is.
Boq, don't forget, the Drama Desk categories have six or seven slots for nominees, where the Tonys have five for performers and four for creative, so it really evens out.
