Just a few things that I have to say about the show...POSSIBLE SPOILERS?
1) I hate, hate, hate the projections during the strip. (Philadelphia, Detroit, Minsky's) If you're not sitting dead center, the ripples in the curtain distort the words, and it looks awful. Even from the center, it doesn't look that good. They made the transfer from City Center, so it looks like they're for keeps.
2) Patti's new smock. The sea foam green-esque jacket she wears in the first act, and over the "Rose's Turn" dress now has paint all over it. I'm guessing it's supposed to look like she was painting in it, but really...is that necessary? It looks gross. Back me up Foster!
3) This is just a tiny gripe, but I really, really miss how Patti used to go to the mirror in Louise's dressing room when Louise says: "It's for Vogue."
Regardless though, I am still in LOVE with this production. And I made quite the ass out of myself at the stage door tonight. I don't wanna talk about it though...lol!
Oh, now you HAVE TO talk about it. *gets popcorn and waits*
OMG, you MUST share!
We're not here to judge ... Honest.
Disclaimer: He wasn't being honest. Now, please, share...
*turns to blaxx* "Shhh!"

I was too lazy to type this out, but whatev!
OK, so today on my lunch break I bought 2 rush tickets to GYPSY. I spoke with Foster, and he agreed to be my date. Our seats were ROW C Balcony...good seats, but not for us. We sat row A side ORCH. LOVED IT!!
Regardless, the whole reason I went tonight was to give Patti a gift. An 8x10 of my profile picture <-----------------
I had it framed and signed it, and had her sign a copy for me, and I put it in a matching frame.
She did NOT know what to think. She looked so confused. She was like, "Who are you?" And of course, I said: "I'm Ryan!" Then she asked if we had been e-mailing, and I said no, but we should start.
Gah....Foster, fill in the rest of the details! Thanks
She LOVED it!
She was like, "Who are you?!"
And he said, "I'm Ryan!"
It was adorable! She loved it!
And yes, that SMOCK HAS TO GO!!
She starts Rose's Turn wearing a SMOCK with PAINT ALL OVER IT.
It looks HORRENDOUS.
I thought the design team was given two words to work with "cheap" and "ugly" - the result was brilliant!

hey now...it was an Encores! show!!
Aw, that story is kind of cute.
And this smock sounds disgusting. It looked terrible when it was all sea foam color at CC.
Tytoast-
it WAS an Encores production.
NOW! It is a BROADWAY production. There should have been major changes to the physical production. If Patti Lupone was really "born to play this role" she should be given the best possible production. The smock, the lamb puppet and even more simple sets than the Bernadette revival...do not cut it.
I wish people could stop bitching about the set and recognize the fact they have an orchestra of 25 players! More then Bernadette's revival. I am very happy about this size.
This is random but, RyToast1 I definitely sat in front of you and Wanna Be A Foster for the while you were in the balcony. I thought you looked kind of familiar. Anyway, continue on...
Oh, and I agree about the smock. That has got to go!

i liked the smock, because it drives it home that *she's* the one building all the sets for their act!
who else is gonna paint a smiling pig?

I get the smock, I do. I understand what they were going for. However, and correct me if I'm wrong, but some time has gone by between the audition at Grantziger's Palace and the time when she sings "Rose's Turn." Couldn't she have gotten a new coat in that time? She wears a nice maroon coat for "Everything's Coming Up Roses," so it's not like the green thing is her only piece of outerwear.

oh, thats true!
i posted my thoughts in the BAD GIGOLOS thread!
My friend was there last night, it was concierge night, and said that the show ran for almost 3 hours with all of the ovations. What is the running time of the show? Oh, and he called me as he was leaving the theater raving about it. He had also seen it at City Center.
Saturday night we were on the street by 10:50.

The first 2 performances let out right about 11pm. Last night, it got out at about 10:50pm.
The first preview ran 3 hours.
Last night ran 2:50.
The curtain calls literally take a good 7-8 minutes.
He said it went on for a bit and that the audience applauded through the overture. He said the audience was really energized last night. I can't wait to get there to see it. I have never seen Gypsy onstage.
Can I just say that Leigh Ann Larkin is like *the* sweetest performer I have ever met at a stage door?
She is as sweet as apple pie. A total doll, and so humble. And gorgeous!
While that green coat is super ugly, the "Everything's Coming Up Roses" purple coat is GORGEOUS on her.

Exactly, I think she looks soooooooo good in the act one finale outfit. The hat, the coat, everything! mmm
