Most people on this thread .except one, have not heard the entire cd....except the little samples on Amazon through their computer speakers.....NEED I SAY MORE. I have the cast album from the sampler that was sent to the TONY voters. It is TERRIFIC. Orchestrations and performances are great....The sound is expansive. Wait till the cd is released listen to the whole thing on regular speaks or i pod....then make your judgements.
There's a copy on Ebay already. Most of the others look like presales, but this is an actual CD.
double post.

What does it matter if we've heard the entire album or clips? Are the clips not clips of the final product? For me, a full listening would only be more irritating. I'll get the recording, of course, but can't imagine it getting more play than the peerless OBCR or even the competent first revival (which plays much better on disc than it did on stage).
You know, and this goes for so many topics around here, someone not liking something doesn't mean you can't enjoy it or that you're not entitled to your opinion/tastes. I feel like you have to sumbit a blood test, hair sample, and credit report before stating your opinion around here. Those clips are more than enough to be eligible to comment on, in my opinion, the tinny sound and lackluster orchestrations (and Radcliffe's rather flat singing).
I think you can say that in the clips the orchestra sounds 'tinny' or Radcliffe's singing sounds 'flat' (I mean hypothetically) but I don't know if you can make a comment about the entire album if you haven't heard a substantial part of it..
I agree with qolbinau. These amazon clips are usually not representative of how the album will sound on your iPod or through the speakers attached to your CD players. I, for one, am looking forward to hearing this recording in its entirety.
It does sound flat but I'm sure once I import it and set my equalizer it will sound fine. I'm wasn't expecting Daniel to sound amazing so maybe that's why I seem to like it more than others.
Lower expectations and all that....

Indeed, based on those clips, the orchestrations are indeed so anemic!
I just heard the entire thing...AWFUL, AWFUL....I HATE IT...want to know how I really feel? The orchestrastions suck, no one can really sing this show---there is no character development in it at all...it sounds like a concert or a bunch of pop stars who got together to do a benefit recording. This is just bad. OMG the ORCHESTRATIONS are so bad...they are fresh and new but my head hurts from my ears expolding!
Even Anderson sounds full of himself.

Just listened to the entire recording, and it's a lot better then the clips sound. The orchestrations are still awful and distracting, and the recording is uneven in some parts, but for anyone who saw the production, the same is true.
I still think Daniel Radcliffe is giving a fantastic performance every night, and it transfers nicely to the recording. I love that this production puts 'Cinderella, Darling' back in, and Mary Farber sounds great. Rose Hemingway has a great voice, but hardly any characterization, exactly how her performance was on stage.
Tammy Blanchard I believe suffers from poor direction.
Ellen Harvey still has her solo on the recording, so I assume they've only changed it for the televised performances.

Why does everyone hate this revival so much? I mean, seriosuly! Daniel may not be the most fantastic singer, but he's a phenomenal actor and is more successful than any of you could ever hope to be, so why do you feel the need to bash him, or this show?!

I think Daniel is actually great in this. The recording I have a problem with. It's uneven and in the Overture alone it sounded like 5 different musicals in one...and nothing blends. It sounds like everyone sang and recorded their songs one line at a time. No flow and no character development of the show. This is a major musical satire and I don't hear any of that--and from friends who saw it, say the same thing. This sounds like it is just a nice concert version not a full Broadway-Scale production. Just dissapointed that is all.
Wow. Just listened to a couple of songs and it really does not sound that great.
@bwayphreak234 did you listen to the whole song or just clips? I have the whole thing and I am glad I get to hear something new, it just sounds very real and this is not supposed to be real at all. SATIRE...SATIRE....fun...this...boring...I just feel bad...I wanted it to be great...if I get to NYC I will still see it beacuse I would love to still see the show. Daniel actually grew on me!

Now that I've also listened to it, it really isn't as bad as the clips make it sound. But I do agree with the statement that it really reflects what's on display in the theatre, no better or worse. I was really unimpressed with Radcliffe in the theatre, and I think he sounds awful on this recording. But I love elements of it, namely Faber and Ellen Harvey's solo.
I think it sounds pretty good. I'm very happy with the amount of material that they have included, at least on the digital release. Daniel never ceases to surprise me and Rose Hemingway sounds gorgeous! I love Hanke so he can do no wrong in my book and if you read the liner notes I think they succeeded in making the new orchestrations sound exactly like they wanted them to. They seem to have been going for a smaller jazz ensemble sound so I'm certainly not going to criticize them for clearly achieving their goal even if I don't think it was necessarily the right choice.
