this is probably the only bad casting yet for this show. I hated him on Idol, but maybe he has grown since then since it was 7 years ago.

Did no one at Lincoln Center see From Justin to Kelly?

The only thing I can think (and maybe this is hugely optimistic) is that he was cast because he's actually got that much potential. Nowhere else does it look like they went for star casting (even though they did pursue Jessica Biel). He's such a wash-up in terms of celebrity that he can't be seen as a significant enough draw to cast him unless he actually turned in some great auditions, right? right?

I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st.

...oh I see.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Do we really think Patti is going to let this show turn into a sh*t show? I think she'd throw a tantrum and/or quit if he was terrible.

I was just talking to him the other day in Doylestown and he said "he was in rehearsal for a Broadway show" and I completely put it out of mind. Good for him! he went to my elementary school...and middle school...and high school. fun fact for anyone who gives a ****

Just remember: you all thought Corbin Bleu was going to ruin ITH.
All I'm saying: give the kid a chance, he might have actually DESERVED the part.

He actually looks like his parents could be Patti LuPone and Brian Stokes Mitchell.

"American Idol" continues to invade Broadway. I was never a fan of his on the first season, but good for him for making his Broadway debut in a musical with an A-list Broadway cast.

Wtf???
There are some good names in the ensemble though.
The Women on the Verge ensemble will also include Julio Agustin, Alma Cuervo, John Carroll, Murphy Guyer, Rachel Bay Jones, Nina Lafarga, Yanira Marin, Sean McCort, Vivian Nixon, Luis Salgado, Jennifer Maria Sanchez, John Schiappa, Samantha Shafer, Phillip Spaeth and Charlie Sutton.

i had an eye-roll reaction too at first. but he should be given a fair chance to show what he can do. not expecting much, mind you but he must've earned it somehow.

32? Really? Still pretty much a "kid" to me!
Does attempting to succeed on AI preclude performers to BE on b'way? They are performers...many that have always talked about their ties to the stage.
Note: I'm not a fan of his or anything...has he done ANYTHING (professional performance wise) in the last 5 years?

Well Biel wasn't the only one. CZJ was an early choice for Sherie's role, but they wanted her to audition, and she refused. Word got around, and CZJ received calls from Sondheim and Nunn shortly after asking her to star in Night Music.

Well, my excitement for this show just got tarnished with this poor decision.

When Sam Harris made his Broadway debut did people react in the same way? "Oh, it's that Star Search guy"

Have you seen him in the role? Have you read the script? Do you know size of the role? How do you know it's a poor decision?
It's a slightly jarring decision at first, but how is it "poor" yet?

Many of you are developing opinions before you even get to see the show. How can it be a poor decision if you haven't seen him? Who knows if even will even have a big part.

@ljay889 While I have not seen him in this particular role, I have seen his acting abilities from his other projects. From those experiences, I say it's a poor decision.

You've got some of the biggest names on Broadway here, one casting choice shouldn't deter you from seeing it...Who knows, maybe Justin will join the ranks of other successful AI alumnae who went to Broadway

He's lucky to be making his Broadway debut here and not as part of Good Vibrations, as he was once slated to do. I agree that he certainly looks like he could be the son of LuPone and Mitchell. And other than acting like a smug jerk on AI, he was a fairly good performer live on the show. I remember thinking that he was the one to beat, not Kelly Clarkson, so I will keep an open mind.
