"Who knows, maybe Justin will join the ranks of other successful AI alumnae who went to Broadway"
--Maybe? He IS joining their ranks.
"I have seen his acting abilities from his other projects. From those experiences, I say it's a poor decision."
--So again, I ask, "WHAT has he done lately?"

it is an odd choice. but i equally dislike the theatre snobs (not pointing fingers) who feel it's their duty to decide who is -or is not- worthy of being in the THEEAR-TAH. that really turns off a lot of people and doesn't help fill seats. if he is talented and willing to do the work, then good for him.
having said that, i must admit that i've always felt that tv/film stars only do Broadway to fulfill their GOTE (GrammyOscarTonyEmmy) criteria.

Who the hell knows what's going on with Guarini being cast this way. I'd say Bartlett Sher will work magic on him, but Sher is allowing that Andrew Samonsky creature to screw up SOUTH PACIFIC every night.

Wow! What a bunch of haughty, self-impressed, supercilious pussies. I think it's a fine choice.

When Sam Harris made his Broadway debut did people react in the same way? "Oh, it's that Star Search guy"
THANK YOU
give him a break he has to be ok because if he auditioned he must have something...why the negative responses some of the best performers started off in less specatular ways he may be the next coming of something great ..or not.. but lets give him a chance.....(by the way i wanted kelli to win that year i wasnt crazy about his voice)

But again, you don't know that yet. The role may not even be that large.

He was on American Idol over 7 years ago. How many years have to go by for them before people look at them as just another actor? Diana Degarmo has been in several shows over the last 4 years and people still complain about her being "Idol stunt casting."
It's not stunt casting with Guarini either. He pretty clearly went in and won the job based on his audition. He's just another member of the cast and I wish him well.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I've only seen him in that travesty From Justin to Kelly...but I agree with those who have said the rest of the cast is just too damn good for this news to get me down.

"Also, you can't blame him for From Justin to Kelly. (Also, it's one of the best bad movies ever."
I own it on DVD.

The Pone fans will own the idol fans. Sherie also has some crazy fans too as I experienced at Everyday Rapture.

@OurTime992, you thought Justin Guarini would beat THE Kelly Clarkson on Idol??? Blasphemy!
Back to the topic at hand, I'll reserve judgment until I've seen or heard him in the part. He certainly does know how to sing.

"When Sam Harris made his Broadway debut did people react in the same way? "Oh, it's that Star Search guy""
And don't forget Linda Eder, who went on the be called "voice of the century" and was nominated for Drama Desk & Outer Critics Award nominations and a theatre world award.
Am I optimistic with his casting? Not really, not really a fan of his voice as said above either. Does he have the ability to surprise? Why not... It has been years as said above!

"From Justin to Kelly. (Also, it's one of the best bad movies ever.)"
That film was just a bad musical adaptation of "My Best Friend's Wedding." The only differences between "From Justin to Kelly" and "My Best Friend's Wedding" is that the bad girl, who tries to steal the guy, is a supporting female instead of the main character, and that no one was getting married.
ETA: I also remember when I was hoping that Ryan Starr, who came in 7th place in season 1 of "Idol," would stay over him when they were in the bottom two. Ryan and Brian Dunkleman revealed that vote was SO close that Justin made it by the skin of his teeth.

Clearly, he wasn't cast for his name. Since I'd assume that most people reacted to this news with, "Justin who? Oh, that curly haired kid from idol a million years ago!" I doubt that someone like Bartlett Sher would have cast him, if he didn't think that he could deliver the part. At least this is what I have to tell myself.

I was taken aback because his name just seems so out of place. All these theater heavyweights, many of whom have made their careers almost exclusively on stage. His name just seems out of place.
Whether he will in the show or not, I can't wait to see. Rooting for him and the show

Is Guarini playing the role that A. Banderas played in the movie? Banderas was gorgeous and ultra young at the time, so maybe they're going for that "type". Hey, it's all about marketing. I agree w/bryan. Even LuPone had to start somewhere, and I used to see her back in the early 70's when she was just starting out, sooooo.......to quote an "Ain't Misbehavin" lyric - "One never knows?, Do one?"
