producers could save a ****load of money by creating a 2 minute trailer for a show they want to get on broadway and run it by the members of the boards here.
this will be Rocky with more hair and grunting noises....

Sure, if they could get the rights from Boublil and Schonberg, that one would work.
Out of the corner of my eye I read this thread as "KING KONG Set for Failure 2018..."
Not that I wish it ill, I just can't imagine it being good/successful. I hope to be proven wrong. There are great musicals with weirder source material.

I'm also surprised the theater would be willing to have the theater be dark for that long, unless they are planning extensive renovations specifically for the show."
It's always been a limited engagement, and then goes on tour Fall 2018. The plan all along, as with many other limited engagements, was/is to extended for several months past the original "end date." In this case, through the summer. We'll see how that plays out.
Every clip I've seen of the show was incredibly uneven. Yes, King Kong has to be a bit of spectacle--a guy in a gorilla suit won't cut it Kong, but there seemed to be such an emphasis on the giant Kong puppet that the music and words were forgotten.
And I'd still love to see a Mambo Kings musical. The book is one of my favorites and I still enjoy the movie.
And yet still no word on "Bombshell." WTF?
What was seen on stage in Melbourne Australia was a huge mess of a show.
It had about 3 interesting theatrical moments, here's hoping they can come up with a few more.
