I wonder why Broadway World has such a difficult time putting event dates in their articles.

Has Ramin done comedy? Interesting choice for the lead.

He played a parody of himself on one of those BWW podcasts. But the amount of comedy in the King varies wildly from production to production.

This was actually his second stage role in the UK back in 2002. My understanding is DHP personally invited him to do the role. Right now he's doing the revival of Funny Girl. Great sense of humor (I'm a long-time fan).

I had never seen a production of this show but did get a small exposure of the famous song from watching the indy film called "Those People" several years ago. I was searching on youtube just now and found this video when DHP was the SNL host in 1995! He's hilarious!
Will be attending the reading tonight and am excited. Yes I'll be eating sardines for the rest of this month. :)

It was definitely more than just a 'reading'. I thought going in that the actors would stand in place and read their parts from their folders onstage. All the actors memorized the songs and it was only parts of the dialogue where they had to look back in the folder.
DHP, Ramin Karimloo, Colton Ryan, and Samantha Williams were standouts for me but overall the cast was great especially given the short amount of time they rehearsed for this.
There was even choreography (tap dancing, sabre fights, flags synch, etc.) and even a cannonball. The live orchestra behind the actors was superb.
For a benefit like this, are the actors and musicians paid? Or do they donate their time?

From anyone who saw this, any thoughts on whether this could potentially be something that ends up getting a full-scale production? Similar to the She Loves Me and Kiss Me Kate benefits that had their revivals?

The goal is clearly to give it a full Broadway run, probably in the next season or 2. Scott Ellis basically said as much in his opening speech. He said he couldn’t believe it had been 40 years since the show had been seen in NYC and this reading was a first step towards bringing it back.
