I'll take your word(s) for it, it simply isn't coming through currently with her robotic line readings as Vivian.

Yeah, but Vivienne is a poorly written role and her lines just...are robotic. My opinion anyway.

Kate Shindle has said in a past interview (I believe on this site) that she would love to play the role. I'm pretty sure the interview was back when Wicked was still new because she said something along the lines of: "When they start looking for new green girls, I'd sell my soul for an audition."
I'd like to see her take on it. I'm sure she could sing the hell out of the score; I'm interested to see her act the role.
Viv in LB is written the way she plays it. She plays it like Selma Blair plays it in the movie. She is supposed to be flat, boring, stuck-up...etc.
I'm not sure if she's a good enough actress, but she could definitely sing the hell out of it.
I think she could sing AND act the hell out of it. She's great. I think she'd be perfect.

It occurred to me. I think it would be a good fit.
The first time I saw Kate was on the Cabaret tour as Sally... and she blew me away. Girl can act. I'm itching for her to get into something where she can really show that off again.
Given her resume (including Cabaret & I believe she's also done some Shakespeare, no?) she'd be a kick-ass Elphaba.
I wish I could've seen her as Sally Bowles. I bet she killed performing the title song.
I didn't know Victoria Matlock was that tall, around 6'. I didn't notice when I saw her in atlanta.
Since everyone is holding up signs these days...
*holds up a sign* I SUPPORT KATE SHINDLE AS ELPHABA!!!
Ditto! She'd be perfect! I love the idea. I saw her in Cabaret and thought she was amazing.
Shoshana Bean had zero depth or warmth. Shindle has personality to book, a great voice without a break (unlike some Elphaba's). And I don't really think its fair to call her line readings in Legally Blonde robotic. She's playing a fairly robotic character until the end.
"I do not bond".
But she does, and shows beneath that hard shell is someone who really wants to be loved.
I would love to see her Sally in Cabaret.
Kate would be great and some new fresh blood in the show. I say yes.
While I think Shindle would be fierce in the role, I'm not so sure she'd do it.
Though she doesn't have many Broadway credits to her name, I see her wanting to concentrate on originating new roles in new projects vs being the seventh replacement in a long running show (even with a role as juicy as Elphaba).
Careful somethingwicked, some of us said that about Orfeh (arguably a much better known Broadway star) and we got beat down for thinking she would be better off originating roles. As for Shindle as Elphaba, having never seen her "act" in anything else, I'm a little wary of her skills as an actress too.

I agree with others: Kate Shindle as Elphaba would be the only reason I would ever see Wicked again... and then I would go completely broke. She would be a powerhouse of acting and singing!
Orfeh easily gave the worst "comedic" performance I've ever seen. To say she was reaching is a gross understatement.
Sorry Bobby my old friend but you are so wrong, it's comedic. If everyone on this thread is defending Shindle's acting by "blaming" it on the writing, Orfeh is a comic genius for being able to get the literal guffaws she garners from the crowd with the material that poor gal is stuck with. On another note, why go after Orfeh for no reason, this thread was not about her other than Rup "warning" SomeWick about how up in arms some posters get when other posters suggest certain actors shouldn't take over roles at certain points in their careers. Your comment was totally misplaced and untrue.

I'm sorry, did I miss where I brought Orfeh up as anything other than an anecdote? What was in your oatmeal this morning Bobby? Oh and the 3 nominating committees who gave her said nominations for the "worst comedic performance" might beg to differ.

In my opinion Orfeh gave one of the most over-the-top, overacted performances that I've ever seen. I wouldn't go calling her a "comedic genius".
I think Kate is wonderful in Legally Blonde despite the poor writing her character has. She's always adding little things into her performance that make it that much more appealing. I think she'd make an amazing Elphaba.
Ah yes, even when it's not about Orfeh, it becomes about Orfeh vs. well just about anyone. It is interesting (and Al already pointed this out, yet it obviously bears repeating), how you're all defending Kate Shindle for being saddled with poor material and going so far as to say her "robotic performance was because she was emulating Selma Blair" blah, blah. In turn I say to those who think Orfeh is "over the top", maybe it was written that way and she was emulating what a zany, flamboyant manicurist would do.
She's always adding little things into her performance that make it that much more appealing.
Word. Random: has anyone else ever noticed that, when Michael Rupert's doing "Blood in the Water," that on the 'I hire four new interns every year' line, that Vivienne 'counts' the competition? I noticed Kate do it one night, and ever since I *always* look for it during that line, it's just so perfectly Vivienne.
Why has this thread taken this turn? And why the He** is it now about Orfeh? I'm not sorry I stated my opinion about Shindle's acting but I am sorry there's always someone who wants to pollute these threads with nonsense. I can see Orangeskittles joining the Orfeh bashing any minute.
