The E6 is not in the actual score, and is an optional note to end No One Mourns The Wicked, first used by Kristin Chenoweth and popularized by Megan Hilty. That said, the highest sustained note in the score for Glinda is a C6.

I think it will be interesting to see whether or not she pulls it of but this is a difficult role to pull off, IMO. I don't know if she has the type of voice or the vocals to do it, but I guess we'll see

I thought Katie was brilliant in LITP, and I can't imagine that she would be cast in Wicked if she can't hit the notes? Has anyone prior to her not been able to hit the notes? I didn't think so.

Dear bwaylvsong,

People get cast all the time even if they can't sing. I bet you have even seen a show a walked out saying, "wow, they just could not sing..." It happens, how or why is a mystery to me.

As for other people in Wicked as Glinda, it isnt too late to start casting people who can't sing now.

I've heard she has been training a lot and her voice has improved.

Trust me, I'm well aware of that. I'm just saying that hasn't happened in Wicked yet (at least for the Glindas I've heard). And we all know that Katie can sing, we just don't know if she can handle the score. When I saw her live in Piazza, her "vocal accuracy," otherwise known as intonation, was fine. I agree that her singing wasn't great on the TV broadcast, though.

I have seen Katie live all three times, and her intonation(as you prefer for it to be refered to) was horrible. I also watched it on PBS, and i will give you that the broadcast was just not a good night for her. I really don't think she will be able to handle Wicked's score. Piazza definitely has a harder one, but Wickeds isn't exactly easy, especially for Glinda.

Did you see her on tour or on broadway? Apparently she was much better on tour.

I saw her on broadway once, then twice on tour.

Katie is a beautiful performer. She could bring a lot to the role of Glinda, going deeper than the surface, which a lot of Glindas tend to lack. Best of luck to her.

Kendra didn't hit the last note of "Thank Goodness." Someone in the ensamble sang it.

I will give her that her acting isn't half bad. Maybe this role will be better for her, no one really knows yet do we? Maybe my opinion will even change after I see her in a few weeks.

At the very least she'll look great in the costumes!

I saw Katie in "Piazza" on Broadway not long after she took over the role of Clara and thought she was fine. I hope someone posts a review of her as Glinda very soon. Would like to hear how she did.

jake6970-
You weren't kdding abour Carmen Cusack - she sounds great! I saw Katie Clark on the Lincoln Center broadcast of Piazza, and there were parts of that show where she ripped my heart out! Between Carmen and Katie, I'm really looking forward to seeing the show in St. Louis.

I saw her in the LitP tour and she had improved a LOT, but I still had a ton of issues with her vocally, particularly with her diction. She was able to hit that A5 in "Say It Somehow" without making me cringe, though, so hopefully she can sustain a C6 just fine now. Hopefully.

Granted, Schwartz's score is probably a helluva lot easier to sing than Guettel's.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

Having seen O'Hara's performance and Clarke's, I have to say Clarke looked like an amateur compared to O'Hara's textured performance. Clarke is a one note performer and played the character as if she were full blown retarted. Its sad that she got to "perform" on live television in the role. Especially when I heard the names of the actresses who didn't get the role.

"...full blown retarted."
Seriously?
That's a bit of an overstatement, no?

I have seen every Clara from Seattle to the Nat'l Tour (minus understudies) and I thought O'Hara had the weakest acting out of all of them.

"...character as if she were full blown retarted."

Not only is that statement a bit offensive, but how ironic that you spelled "retarded" wrong.

Just something to think about.

Maybe it's because Katie's the only Clara I've seen live but I really didn't have a problem with her. I've watched my tape of Piazza more than once and I thought her voice was great. But I definitely think Kelli O'Hara is awesome as well. Just saying.

The only two women who played Clara as if she had down's syndrome were Celia Keenan-Bolger and Laura Griffith; more so Laura Griffith. Celia was directed (and the character was written that way at the time) to do so, but Laura... She spoke more slowly and vacantly. So while there are those who do not favor Katie Clarke, do recognize she was not the most far-off from originally intended character. Katie made specific acting choices, for you to criticize and put down. She never generalized. From the way she held her hands in prayer during "The Beauty Is" to mimic the painting behind her, to the tear she traced, before "Fable," to reflect her own on Vicki's face. Specificity.

Bill Finn rocks. Woot.
