"People get cast all the time even if they can't sing. I bet you have even seen a show a walked out saying, "wow, they just could not sing..." It happens, how or why is a mystery to me."

The reason it happen is that most theatre-goers are uneducated about music and can't hear when a performer is flat, off-key, or has pitch problems. Usually, people with some background in music or a keen interest in music are acutely aware of that. The majority, especially those who see tours are not.

I have liked many performances where later my musican friends were complaining about the person's singing abilities. I am so happy in my ignorant bliss, concentrating on the show rather than being distracted by critiquing notes (unless, they clearly miss the mark-that I can hear.)

I look forward to seeing Katie-she is sweet.

Katie is a dear friend of mine from college and I saw her live in Piazza...I also saw Kelli live in Piazza and while Kelli is better trained vocally; I thought that Katie's acting surpassed Kelli's. Katie is a very talented girl and I'm excited to see her performance as G(a)linda. I know, personally, that she is excited to be a part of the show and I hope y'all can keep an open-mind with her. She'll be great!

Heard her last night. She sounded fantastic.

I didn't realize that she was going to be doing this. I'm a fan of Katie's, but not of the show. However, it would have come to Minneapolis, I probably would have gone to see her performance.

And really, unless a performer is numerously or consistantly sharp or flat does it really matter than much if they're in all other respects wonderful in the role? I'd much rather see a great actor who makes a few mistakes than a perfect singer who sounds flawless but is dull to watch.

Agreed. I thought her performance in Piazza was beautiful. I don't know about anyone else, but she just had a quality about her that I liked. I wanted to watch her, and I cared about the character.

That said, does anyone have Piazza PBS on DVD? I didn't get to record it and I would LOVE to show my friends because I always talk about how great it is.

I'm very interested in hearing a review of her. Is anyone going to the tour's next block of performances in Hartford?

I found this review on a different site. I did not write but I will be seeing them in the Orlando stop. Sounds like she is doing good so far....

*CAST*
Glinda: Katie Rose Clarke
Elphaba: Carmen Cusack
Nessarose: DeeDee Mango Hall
Boq: Brad Weinstock
Madame Morrible: Barbara Tirrell
Doctor Dillimond: Tom Flynn
Fiyero: Cliffton Hall
The Wizard: P.J. Benjamin
Chistery: Jason Davies (U/S)

NOMTW: The ensemble was electric, everyone one was into it. When I first saw Katie come down in the bubble, the first thoughts I had in my head were, "She is gorgeous." She hit those notes perfectly, but she did not do optional high note which was fine with me. BTW: No Entrance Applause

DOS: Carmen came running in and she had no Entrance Applause either.

TWAI: This was the first true test for Carmen and she "A" it. She is such a powerhouse. I had chills from "With Me" to the end that how perfect it was.

WITF: They haven't been working together for that long but they had so much chemistry. They vices do not blend well together, but its fine cause I was able to tell them apart.

SD: Nothing Special

DTL: Cliffton was amazing, his voice was pure and my friend thought he was hot. She was pisssed when I told her that he is married to Nessarose and has a kid. Nothing really speical here. I did like Brad as Boq here, you can tell his heart was breaking during the scene.

P: Katie's version of popular is perfection. She not way out there like Megan or Kendra, but she is still out there. She does a "ous" noise instead of "Poof" is great. Her toss-toss needs a little work but thats all.

INTG: Carmen was perfect in this song, it was so sad.

OSD: Again, the ensemble shined here. Not else really to mention.

SM: Lets move on....

DG: I was waiting for this moment. Katie and Carmen duet parts were great, no missed notes. When Carmen when up, first off it must be mentioned that she did not miss her cue and went up on, "ITS MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE." Once she was up there was awesome. It was really a blur cause it was over in like a second. It was my first time seeing Defying Gravity from the orchestra level so it was a whole different experience.

TG: Katie's voice reallied shined here. Again she did not hit the optional high note but I didn't mind.

WWOE: DeeDee has become my new favorite Nessa. OMG, her voice is so powerful and she can belt. DeeDee's and Carmen's voices blending very well together.

W: P.J. was my first and is my favorite wizard.

INTGR: Katie cracked a little on the last note but it was barely noticeable

ALAYM: Carmen laid on Clifton's arms, it was hot. They have great chemistry and it was well sung by the both of them.

NGD: CARMEN"S BEST SONG HANDS DOWN!!!!!!! She had like a fire under her ass or something cause it was non-stop emotions and anger.

MOTWH: Nothing special...

FG: So sad, but so good. I heard weeping in the theater.

F: Everyone laughed when they saw Clifton as the Scarecrow and when Carmen popped out of the trap door. Katie had a tear in her eye when she was singing.

CC: Some people got up right away, but everyone on their feet when Carmen and Katie came out. Once they did their final bows, Carmen danced her way back behind the curtain which I thought was funny.

SD: It was freezing outside when we got to the stagedoor, there were some random people there waiting for someone. One of the Funny moments was Barbara kept coming out and looking for a Rachel. It took her a few times, but they finally meet up with each other. Barbara didn't sign anything. Katie was the next main person to come out and this group for girls ran up to her, I felt so bad. Then this school group came to the stagedoor once Katie came out and left as soon they got everything signed. P.J. ran out of the theater and didn't sign anything, but this little girl ran after him to have him sign something, which he did. So finally Katie comes to me and my friend, we chit chatted, she signs our playbills, took a picture or two and went back inside. Katie was very sweet at the stagedoor. The next person that came out and sign stuff was Brad, he was very kind. Again, the girls ran up to him, but whatever. When he came to up, again we chit chatted, he signed our playbills, took a picture, and left. Finally Carmen came out. Carmen was very sweet. When she was taking the picture with the group of girls, she yelled, "I WANT MY MAKEUP!" I thought that was funny. When Carmen got to us, we chit chatted, she signed our playbills, took a picture with us, and she left. Unfortunately DeeDee and Clifton did'not come out by the time we left, but I was Carmen and Katie which was fine.

Overall: Carmen and Katie was fantastic. I have heard so much good stuff about Carmen and her performance surpassed my expectations. Katie was an amazing choice by the casting directors. I wish I can go back for my fourth time.

Thank you! I don't know why I didn't look around Wicked boards before posting here.
