Allegedly.
Though this "article," and I use that term liberally, doesn't make much sense, since ACL has been underperforming financially for a while. And the fact that the Schoenfeld isn't a musical house.
"Katie Holmes’ Broadway debut isn’t until September, but the show is already causing controversy. Why? In order to offset the cost of having Holmes star in “All My Sons,” the show needed the theater that “A Chorus Line” currently uses. That, of course, is bad news for Mario Lopez, the current star of “A Chorus Line.”
“Katie wouldn’t sign a long-term agreement with her show, which is why it’s the limited run that it is. They had to figure out how to make more money with the time they had with her,” said a source privy to the talks between shows.
The solution: Move to a musical theater. “Musical theaters have more seats than a traditional playhouse, so they can sell more tickets each week,” the source said. “That’s how the show ended up at the Schoenfeld Theater (where “Chorus Line” runs). Because of the “All My Sons” rehearsal schedule, they had to cut Mario Lopez’s run in “A Chorus Line.”

What an idiotic article. I'm surprised MSNBC would publish enormously uninformed gossip as fact.
The Plymouth/Schoenfeld is generally NOT a musical theatre. It has mostly been used for plays throughout its history, with the occasional musical (mostly in recent years).
I saw this as well this morning and don't believe it. I don't really know who she is other than Tom Cruise's wife. Will she sell tickets? Even Julia Roberts had a hard time filling Three Days of Rain.

After seeing the state that A Chorus Line is in yesterday, thank you Katie.
I don't know how true the above story is, but the revival of A Chorus Line has run its course and it it definitely time for it to go.
Yeah, Three Days of Rain played to an average of 99.58% of capacity for its run. "Julia Roberts had a hard time selling out Three Days of Rain" is a complete fabrication.

It was printed in a gossip column, so make of it what you will about the accuracy. I too thought that "Chorus Line" was on enough rough footing all on its own to not need any help from Katie to close.
Well someone had to drive a nail into the Chorus Line coffin...too soon, too soon

Ticket brokers ate up a lot of 3 Days of Rain tickets...and they had to sell them under cost to get rid of them. And they had a difficult time doing it...no one wanted them.
And it's not like there are no other large houses that will be vacant in September. Made it sound like it's the only large house in town.
Stupid.
I like to blame Katie Holmes for everything wrong with Broadway.
It's just easier that way.
They're saying Katie Holmes is the new Mel Brooks.
She and Mel Brooks are going to get together and close every single other show until theirs are the last two standing. They're just that powerful.
If they want to clear out the theater then Katie and Tom should summon Lord Xeno to come down and vaporize the ACL cast.

Thanks Fosse76, that's what I was referring to. Smaxie, it was not a fabrication. The scalpers snagged up most of the tickets and then couldn't even give them away. The grosses don't show that.
A Chorust Line is playing in what I beleive is the 10th "largest" house on Broadway. As Smaxie said, it's not typically a "home" to musicals either.
It's an article to stir crap up.
I can't wait to see ALL MY SONS starring Katie Holmes!!!!!!!*
*Also featuring John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, and Patrick Wilson

That's their problem. Julia still sold out THREE DAYS OF RAIN. Those tickets sold...the scalpers just couldn't sell them again.

Borstal - THANK YOU!!!!!
All I could think when reading that was, "When did ALL MY SONS become all about the neighbor chick?!?"
If i had the chance to see this, i would pray to see her understudy. Really she is nothing to write home about and sadly now her main claim to fame is being married to that whack job
Why would she take a replacement role 3 months before making her debut in a new production? Makes no sense.
if you guys haven't seen this...you should

Average ticket price for Three Days of Rain for the run was $111.32. Jersey Boys currently has the highest average ticket price at $115.79 for last week. I dare say that most of the musicals in town would kill to have an average ticket price as high as $111.32. Regardless of the quality of the show itself and the difficulty scalpers had in selling them, someone had to have bought those tickets if it played to 99.58% and an $111 average ticket.
Three Days of Rain sold out previews within minutes of tickets going on sale. Look at the grosses, it played OVER 100% during the entire preview period. People wanted to see Julia Roberts. This is why the scalpers ate up the tickets for the rest of the run. It was only after the horrible reviews that people lost some interest. The average ticket price was still well over $100.
The last 2 weeks also played over 100% as people rushed in for their last chance to see Julia Roberts. There weren't very many empty seats in that house on any given night.
