Now, it's official....
Katie Rose Clarke will be the newest "good" girl to fly into megahit musical Wicked, taking over the role of Glinda beginning January 12, 2010. Also joining the cast is Broadway veteran Jenny Fellner, who joins the cast as Nessarose. Clarke and Fellner replace current cast members Erin Mackey and Michelle Federer, respectively, who will exit the show January 10.

Well Wikipedia was right about that, I wonder if they are right about Carmen Cusack taking over as Elphaba

I just can't imagine Carmen leaving South Pacific to return to a show she has been involved with for years.

How could the producers of "Wicked" not give her the chance to play Glinda on Broadway? She received excellent reviews on tour and she succeeded a Tony Award nominee, Kelli O'Hara, in a critically acclaimed musical, "The Light in the Piazza." I'll miss Erin, but I'm thrilled Katie is coming!
There's not a chance that Cusack is going to leave the national tour of South Pacific, where she is originating the lead role, to become the 9th replacement for Elphaba.
If Carmen was not working on any projects at the moment, I could see her doing Wicked. But, considering that she is on tour with South Pacific, I agree with Adam. It would be strange for her to up and go to Wicked when she is doing something new.

Yay for Katie Rose coming to Broadway. She is one of my favorite Glinda's.
Who is Jenny Fellner and what has she been in before?

Awww I love Jenny. This is a great part for her. I'm glad it's someone new.
Jenny played Natalie in the national tour of All Shook Up and was involved in Princesses a few years back, the David Zippel (sp?) show. I thought she was wonderful in ASU.
Cheers,
Christopher
Argh. Living in Albany, I bought tickets to the tour when it was home in Buffalo specifically to see her. Of course she was out that performance. Second national tour is here now, so I figured I'd see it, went on Tuesday. Now this is announced. If I would have known, I would have skipped the tour to see her!
Happy to hear it otherwise... hopefully she'll stay a while so I can let some time pass... I need a break from the show!
I announced Katie going into Wicked on the Elphaba thread a few weeks ago...I'm so glad they finally released the official announcement.
Both ladies are fantastic, congrats to both! Now, I have to see Wicked again to see Katie!
Jenny is going to be GREAT!
Saw her play Audrey opposite of Jared Gertner's Seymour at Paper Mill's production of 'Little Shop of Horrors' two years back.
She was also involved in Pal Joey.
I am not saying Carmen will be Elphaba and I know that Wikipedia can be edited by anyone. I am just wondering if maybe that could be true. I also don't understand why she would leave the South Pacific tour so soon, but you never know.
This is great news. It would be even better if Lisa Brescia were Elphaba, but I'm not holding my breath.

THAT'S where I know her name from!!!! I enjoyed that production, and really liked the Audrey, who I now realize was played by Fellner. Interesting that she's playing Nessarose, as she struck as more of a Glinda.
Kevin Kern is also leaving in January, possibly later in the month when Roscioli leaves.
I, too, am really hoping Lisa Brescia will get Elphaba. Not only can she sing, but her acting is awesome. She really understands the role.

Lisa was my first Elphaba- 6 actresses after her and she still leaves the biggest impression on me, and no, not because she was my first, but because her acting was truly the best.

Maybe Donna Vivano will take over for Elphaba? I loved them together on tour.

Huh, this might actually get me back to see the show. Haven't seen Katie, but have heard such good things - and then with a brand-new Elphaba too? Might be exciting.
Lisa Brescia really is a fantastic Elphaba. I'd love to see her as Elphaba on Broadway
Just saw Donna Vivino in Cleveland with Chandra Lee Schwartz, also saw her last December in Detroit with Katie Rose Clarke and I thought her chemistry with Katie Rose Clarke was far better than her chemistry with Chandra Lee Schwartz. I'd also love to see Donna Vivino as Elphaba on Broadway!

Katie Clarke is a divine Glinda and Jenny Fellner will be a wonderful Nessarose. She was sublime in Pal Joey. :) GREAT CASTING! Might bring me back to the show.
Finally Katie gets to be Glinda on Broadway. I am so excited! Time to book a trip to New York :P
One of the BWW articles now indicates her first performance is Thursday the 14th, not Tuesday the 12th.
Congrats for Katie! I was always partial to Kendra Kassebaum because she was the first Glinda I'd ever seen (and they normally take your heart), but when I saw Katie I was thrilled by her portrayal! She's probably the only of the five Glinda's I've seen to actually capture the heart of the character and make you truly feel, not just laugh. She plays both sides of the character in perfect harmony. She's definitely worth a return trip if you haven't already seen her.
I second the notion that Donna Vivino needs to be Elphaba on Broadway.
