Keira Knightley - Wouldn't she be loverly?

I've read that she considers her audition for Phantom of the Opera one of the most mortifying moments of her life-- I really can't see her being too keen on taking a role in a musical. If it's a movie-musical she'd be dubbed, and I'm okay with that (being one of probably very few who is glad that Audrey Hepburn played Eliza, though Keira is no Audrey). I don't know, I think she's overrated as an actress, but I could see her in this role, singing aside.

2) Keira is NO way as pretty/elegant as Audrey

Well that isn't fair...absolutely NOBODY is as pretty/elegant as Audrey! :)

Not sure how reliable the source is, but:

Well, at least this way she'll be able to sing!

Remember all those reports about Keira being tone deaf? They can't all be false...

Yeah I'm note sure how reliable it is either- they called Emmy Rossum a trained soprano.

Don't know if she is right or not for the musical be it theatre or movie. What has me thinking though is who could be Henry Higgins opposite her. Must be at least 20+ years her senior. Would love it if he could really sing. (No Hugh Jackman, please) I wonder who????

Because she's so young (and looks it), casting an older looking Higgins won't be too hard.

Maybe they can ge Chad Michael Murray to play Higgins. re: Keira Knightly - Wouldn't she be loverly?

John Cullum would be a decent Higgings.

Yes he would. Though he may be a tad too old next to Knightly. It would add a creepy factor.

Who says that Higgins has to be 20 years her senior?

He doesn't, but isn't Kinightly a bit younger than past Eliza's? At least visually, she looks a lot younger. So I don't think they should cast a Higgins that looks like her grandfather.

Doesn't a lot of the story involve the mentor/protegé dynamic between Eliza and Henry Higgins? He doesn't strictly have to be 20 years her senior, but at least significantly older.

As long as this project stays on the stage I am happy with it. I really would rather not see a remake of a movie that is already an all-time classic. There is no way any movie version could touch the original with Hepburn, Harrison, Holloway, and Marni Nixon's voice!

I think Phillip Quast would make a good Higgins. He is older, but not so much older that it would be "scary" as someone mentioned earlier.

I actually think Knightly at 21 is older than Julie Andrews was when she created the role. I think Higgins could be played by somebody 15 years older than her and it would work fine. There are plenty of 36 year old leading men who could do it. How about Clive Owen?

What about Marc Kudisch, he would be about the age and is likely to be able to act Higgins-ish, I'm sure.

From the report, she seems to be enthused my musical theatre. I think that is wonderful. She is very talented, and if she is that excited about it, then let her. I feel that people with enough dedication and passion to a part, will succeed greatly. It's a shame many actors aren't that way.

I always think she would be the perfect Eponine if there is a Les Miz movie.

She is a beauty, and I agree she was a delight in Pride and Prejudice.

However, if she does this I hope she does it on stage. Even though Audrey was dubbed in the film, "My Fair Lady" I thought she nailed the part, acting wise. I would've loved it if Julie Andrews was in it, too.

My Fair Lady opened in March of 1956. Julie Andrews turned 21 later that same year. Just to set the record straight hahaha

I think Keira Knightley is a fantastic actress and to me she seems PERFECT for this role. I don't know how she is as a singer, but I don't think we should rely on rumors about her being tone deaf before we actually hear her sing.

And I'm sorry, but the title is really bugging me...her last name is spelled Knightley.
