To be historically accurate, her hair should be no shorter than that. Assuming the photographs of Navy nurses from 1942 are accurate, most of them did not have hair that was much shorter than women in the mainland U.S.
According to Mary Martin, she simply wanted her hair very short so that it would be easier to wash and dry before the next scene. But none of the other actresses playing war nurses had a haircut as short as hers.

With her bone structure, she loks absolutely fabulous with short hair.
Funny thing is prior to watching that video I was expecting something like my grandmother use to wear!

I won't be surprised if they end up cutting it a little bit shorter before the show starts. It'd be really cute looking something like this... 
As long as it's a vintage look she doesn't need a Mary Martin cut.
